Shopping Carts Now Stored in the Parking Lot

Posted Wed December 19, 2007 5:12 pm, by Tony R. written to Walmart

It's get your own cart week at Walmart in West Lafayette, IN. For 3-4 days now, our local Walmart has not brought in its shopping carts. Now customers can brave the cold on their own by getting them from the parking lot themselves--and lose some weight in the process.

Unfortunately, this is really a small incident in the history of this store. Here are a few of my other personal favorites at Walmart West Lafayette:

* Employees with aluminum carts blocking the aisles while reshelving. (I thought only Home Depot and Lowe's did that.) Just move the cart over to one side!

* Employees with hand trucks and pallet jacks whizzing through the aisles and expecting YOU the customer to get out of the way.

* Until this store gets clean, I will continue to answer "No" at the checkout line when asked "Is your store clean today?"

Just get somebody on this stuff. (It's not like I'm going to stop shopping at Walmart; the whole country, after all, is on Walmart Welfare. What would we do without it?)

The same thing happened at my Wal Mart on Saturday. I solved it by
walking back out and grabbing a cart. Geez.

Let me see...this is typically the time of year when people do holiday
shopping, so naturally there are going to be more carts around.

Cart-chasers have to go after carts that people were too lazy to walk
a few extra feet and put in the cart corrals.

I seldom go to Wal-Mart at all. I only go if I have to. I do my
grocery shopping at a local chain. And since I don't keep Xmas it's
easy for me to skip Wal-Mart.

most of my shopping issues at walmart are customers in my damn way,
not employees.

It's the holidays. The place is probably way to busy trying to restock
and ring people out to spare extra people to get carts (that's how my
store has been all week).

I know it's annoying sometimes, but you need to understand that this
is the busiest shopping week of the year, and it's not going to get
better for a couple days. Just deal with it, and be thankful that
these people work their butts off so you can have a good holiday.

Tony R.,

If you are not bringing at least one cart inside when arriving to
shop, you my friend, are part of the problem.

Call me crazy, but if there is a cart in the lot anywhere, I grab that
cart on my way in for myself. In fact, it makes it easier because I
can seat my 3yo in it right away so he's not running around where
there are cars.
How hard is that!

park your cars in the store. Get somebody on spreading the word.

Yeah, it sucks that WalMart is encouraging physical fitness for its
patrons by making them grab their own buggy on the way into the
store.

That *is* a small incident.

I guess none of these "complaints" means anything to you if you will
keep shopping there. You just got bored. You have extra time, maybe
*you* could volunteer and get "on this stuff."

This might be the dumbest letter I've read.. god forbid you have to
bring in a cart from outside to use.

You're quick to take a cart to the parking lot but OMG if you have to
bring one back watch out. You're lucky they are in the lot. We just
purchased another run of carts to replace the stolen ones. Two days
ago I had it out with a typical customer trying to take one of the new
ones down the highway.

Where to begin...you are coming into the store anyway...grab a cart.
You want items stocked on the shelves at the busiest time of the
year...walk around or down another aisle.
When asked if their store is clean, say yes because you never state
anywhere in your letter that you slipped on spilled liquids, got ABC
gum stuck to your shoe or had to walk over a 1/2 eaten sandwich or bag
of snacks.

And next time call your local television stations about these
ridiculous problems...I am sure you would much rather see yourself on
television than just your writings in PFB.

Oh...and have a pleasant day. :=)

"Just get somebody on this stuff. (It's not like I'm going to stop

Seems like you could've saved some time by just writing, "Please
ignore everything I just wrote."

The entire country is not on "Walmart welfare" like you stated. A lot
of us wouldn't step foot into one of those disastors they call a
retail store. I went into one several years ago and was disgusted by
it on many, many levels. So that was it for me. You have other
shopping choices you know!

Lovely, just when my migraine from your LAST letter was settling down.
. .

The only thing I'll give you on this letter, Tony is that AT LEAST you
admit you won't stop shopping there because of this.

Perhaps there is hope for you yet.

At a Sam's Club I went to a few times, there were signs up directing
children of a certain age, accompanied by a parent, could bring a cart
into the store with them and get a raffle ticket. Weekly drawings
were held, and they gave away lots of cool stuff. Kids weren't
allowed to bring carts in on their own -- they had to be with a
parent, so it was safe for kids.

That store never had a problem with carts in the parking lot.

I don't know your Wal-Mart, but around here, you have to brave the
cold to get from your car to the store.

I can only assume you problem is that the carts are in the w-a-y back
of the lot, while you're parking up front. Thereby requiring you to
walk away from the store, by quite a bit, to get a cart. Only to then
have to walk all the way back to your car to start the journey to the
store anew.

Losing weight? These much be some heavy carts that you'd actually
lose weight by pushing them from the lot to the store.

Oh, and by the way... the answer to your problems is easy: speak to
the manager. Let him/her know of these specific complaints. Politely
ask if you can meet with him/her again in a couple of weeks for you to
give your feedback on the wonderful plan the manager has put into
place to remedy these problems. Politely. Then, when you come back,
if the things aren't addressed, you can then let the manager know that
you didn't see any change and that you can't shop there any more. Not
just because of the problems, but because the management of this
particular store doesn't seem to be able to affect the needed change.

"Until this store gets clean, I will continue to answer "No" at the
checkout line when asked "Is your store clean today?" Wow - - that
will really show them!

Question - how hard is it to grab a cart on your way into the store?
After all, you start out in the parking lot. It's not like you have
to go back out if you get it the first time.

If you're not going to shop elsewhere, what's Wal-Mart's incentive to
correct these "problems"?

Why not stop shopping there? I don't go there, and it's the closest
store to my home.
