Kmart Sells Christmas Trees with Faulty Lights

Last year, I bought a Martha Stewart Everyday 6-1/2 ft. Blue Ridge Mountain Tree with 600 Multi-Colored Lights from Kmart. The box on the tree claimed that the lights should last for 1000 hours. It also claims the whole string of lights will never go out if one bulb burns out.

I had no problem with the tree last year when we bought it, but this year a half a string of lights on the top went out as soon as I put the tree up. We tried testing every light and every fuse, but nothing would fix the lights. A few days later, part of a string of lights on the middle section went out. Again, nothing we did could fix the lights. Now, the whole string of lights on the top section have went out. Again, we were unable to fix the problem by replacing the bulbs and fuses. We also attempted to call the 1-800 number listed on the box several times, but no one ever answers.

I also noticed that we are not the first family this happened to when I was browsing the reviews on the Martha Stewart Christmas Trees on Kmart's website. It seems like some people are getting trees with faulty strings of lights.

To be honest, I'm not quite sure what could be done after having this product for a year, but it is clear that Kmart is selling Christmas Trees with faulty lights and something has to be done about it. Christmas is supposed to be a joyous time of year and there is nothing more disappointing to have to deal with a partially lit tree because more quality control doesn't go into these products.

It would also be nice if Kmart would allow me to return this faulty product or offer up a refund.

No..Martha Stewart is selling trees with faulty lights!

This is something you are going to have to take up with them, not
K-mart. You have had the product over a year now. Its no longer
K-mart's responsibility.

Let's send Martha back to prison over this one. Prisons need to stick
to making license plates not Christmas trees.

No teasing....if there has been several documented complaints then
K-mart should take care of this problem.

Was there a warranty on the tree? I would expect my tree to last
longer.

I always wondered about the warrantees on those lights, eventually
they are going to go. I can understand your frustration since that is
one of the selling features.

We acquired a pre-lit fiber optic tree last year and my son removed
the lights to use outside (not exactly what I wanted him to do)hehe.
So I bought lights to replace them and now I just put the entire tree
in the garage with a bag over it so I no longer have to string them.

Let us know if Kmart can help you get the information that you need or
put you in better contact with the manufacturer.

and I wouldn't trust electrical devices with Martha Stewart's name on
them. I also wouldn't trust her with my money, for that matter.

I don't have any suggestions for your current (get it?) problem - that
pretty much sucks. Good luck.

You bought a product being sold with a known felons name on it!!!
What did you think would happen???

Sorry, couldn't help it :)

Just out of curiousity though: 1000 hours is 41 days or so. How long
did you use it the first year? I do agree completely though that it
should last longer than it did even if you had it on all day from
November through January. Hopefully K-Mart will come through for you.
Good luck!

Hopefully you hear back from them, at the very least so you know that
they are aware of a problem.

Moisture also may be a culprit here. I know many families keep their
trees in the basement - probably the most moisture-prone part of the
house. And thats one of two things that destroy electronics (heat
being the other, but thats not applicable here) Maybe they should
include (or suggest) a bag that goes over the tree to keep the
moisture out.

Side note - This reminds me why I have a tree that does not have
lights included. Anyway, let us know what happens if they get back to
you. I dont know if there is any kind of warranty here, but I would
check any booklets or the box that came with the tree.

Hopefully K-Mart will be able to put you in touch with the
manufacturer considering the "Everyday" line is sold exclusively at
K-mart. From looking at their website, the Martha Stewart trees I
looked at had a 3 year limited warranty but the website doesn't
indicate how to use the warranty or even who actually manufacturers
it.

I would also give the store manager a call and see if there isn't any
way they could help with the warranty.

Good luck!

So, I'm curious, if you were one of the big wigs at K-mart, would you
open a "Christmas light tester division"? Heres, an idea, blame the
company that MADE THE LIGHTS. K-mart DOES NOT TEST THE
PRODUCTS!!!!!!!
