Danger to McDonald's Employees

I go to the same McDonalds about 4 times a week. This past Thursday I went through the drive thru, ordered, handed the boy my debit card, he slid it and handed it back to me as always. I then drove to the food window where they handed me my food and i drove off. I was waiting at the light to turn in the street when a young girl from the window comes running across the parking lot yelling at me "Did you pay?" I told her yes, then she was followed out by a young male who told me my card was declined. I went in the restaurant, slid my card again and it was fine.
My complaint is that first of all I was totally embarrassed being yelled at in the parking lot but more important, how dangerous is it for a young girl to run across the parking lot for a $4.00 charge. If I was trying to steal $4 worth of food I wouldn't have been sitting at the light waiting, I would have been long gone. Second, I come in there so often they could have told me the next time I was there and I would gladly have paid.
I just want McDonald's employees to have some better safety training. It is extremely unsafe to pursue a customer across a parking lot and not only embarrass the customer but endanger their life

Maybe that they got you mixed up with someone else? Who knows. I thought the cards are automatically approved and if it wasn't, that would have been the clerks fault for handing it to you and not telling you then.

As Calm noted - I am really surprised that they dont wait for the card to go through to give you your food. They really are foolish in doing that because as you've said, if you were not waiting at the redlight you would have been none the wiser. And, I am the kind of person that is pretty oblivious besides whats going on in my car (which, in turn makes me a terrible driver, and i admit that 100 percent) that i would not have even noticed the girl running over to me unless she jumped on my windshield!

It seems to me that what McDonald's ought to do so that this doesn't happen is come up with a procedure where you either don't get your card back or don't get your food until the payment has gone through. And that's one reason to have people sign receipts: it makes it absolutely clear when the payment has gone through and when it hasn't.
Hoping that someone will recognize you, will remember the problem from the last time and will be able to track down the exact amount you owe; and that you will be cooperative, will accept their word for it that you weren't billed, and will be prepared to pay both charges is really, really unlikely to ensure that McDonald's will get all the money they're owed.

I think it is nice that you were concerned about their safety but you cannot seriously tell me that you would have paid double the next time you went in and not thought you were getting scammed. Another thing to think about is that their cash drawers have to balance and if they don't I'm sure the cashier would have a problem explaining why you weren't made to pay for your meal.

I don't know how McDonalds handles things, some companies dock employees for their mistakes. 4 dollars may seem like small change to us, but to a teen, losing four dollars from an opening level job with resticted working hours is a big deal.
I do think it's nice of you to point out the safety issue, it's very dangerous in those lots, people often are distracted "multitasking" while in a rush to get on their way, anyone darting after another car could be seriously hurt.

Shoot...in some parts of the country when someone comes running up to your window the safest thing to do is to take off....

This is a matter of business. If they mistakenly didn't charge you, they have a right to come running across the parking lot. What if they didn't? You drive off, and they sure will never get paid for the food.
A lot of people speak of being embarrassed in a consumer situation, whether it is someone being asked for identification, or a situation such as this. You know you did nothing wrong, so there is no reason to be embarrassed. Besides, exactly how many people witnessed this "incident"?
As far as engangering people's lives, exactly whose life was endangered here? The "boys" and "girls" who work at McDonald's? Do you not think that these young ladies and young men are old enough to know how to cross traffic?
You seem to be mostly indignant that they came after you for payment of your bill. Just because you thought it was already paid for doesn't give you that right. Now you should be embarrassed, but hey, we don't know you.
