Poor poor attitude

Write a Letter to this Company
I have been driving 3.1 miles to the Tom Thumb store on Arapaho in Richardson, Texas for about a year now. There is an Alberston's at the corner of Beltline and Plano Road in Richardson that is only .3 (1/3 mile) from my house. I was in a hurry today so I decided to just go across the street from my house to pick up a few things that I needed. One of your checkers at this store reminded me why I no longer shop there. I walked in the front door, noticed she was standing right inside the door by the customer service booth, and said "Hello" with a smile on my face. She looked at me right in the eyes and turned her head away without saying a word. I was halfway down the main aisle on the way back to your meat department when I decided to turn around and give my business to a company who hires friendly staff (or at least courteous staff that will, at the very least, reply to a customer when they say "hello"). I drove the 3 miles to Tom Thumb and was greeted by a lady in the bakery department as soon as I walked in the door without having to say a work to her to get the greeting. 2 other employees said good morning to me before I exited the store 10 minutes later. Needless to say, I will take the additional time in the future to drive to Tom Thumb.
Nothing - this happened on a regular basis when I shopped at Albertson's and nothing changed before. I wrote a letter to the corporate office about the poor customer service and never even received so much as an email reply.

That you turned around and left. I would have too. There are too many shopping options for all of us to put up with unfriendly customer service. Here's the deal with Albertsons. They are now a HUGE corporation and there have been tons of mergers with other regional and local companies. The Albertsons in my neighborhood is one of the worst.
I've shopped them in other states when I've been out of town and theyall stack up the same. Lame! I believe the very worst ones, or those that have been fired from other grocery store chains in the country have all been sent to my local Albertsons. If they flunked out of checker school, they were then immediately hired at my local store. If they are slower than molasses, then they are hired at my local store. I think there are one or two that are pretty good and I feel really sorry for them. Who do they relate to? Talk to on their breaks? Unfortunately, those two are not enough for me to go back there and I drive a lot farther than 3 miles to grocery shop because of it.
Thanks for your letter. It made me laugh and think about Albertsons. I haven't been there in a very long time and now I remember why!
Peace!

perhaps she was deaf?
my boyfriend is a manager at a grocery store, and one of his employees is deaf. he has had a few complaints about the fact that she is "rude" when in fact she is hearing impaired. just a thought.

Maybe that CSR standing there was on break. I have noticed that CSR's in certain places are all smiles and friendly, when on duty and they are obliged to serve me. If I see them when they aren't on duty, they sometimes will barely acknowledge my existence, even if I smile and say "hi".
I try not to be so sensitive to "interactions" such as this. I have thought about them, and decided that if I had to be the cat's meow to customers, regardless of how unfriendly they are to me, when I'm on break I may want to have little to do with them.
Granted, if they are standing in plain view, and addressed, common courtesy and the fact they represent the company would seem to dictate they respond to a such greeting.

on nametags and it is not safe. Good way for stalkers to fixate.
Employees should refuse to have last name used.
Anyhow...no matter how you look at it-customer is #1.

I work in retail and I have customers do the same thing to me. I guess it's acceptable for customers to be rude jerks.

I thought you were implying that she knew this particular person and was knowingly damaging her, which is what I was thinking.

For some reason, I had "V for Vendetta" on the brain (looked up Hugo Weaving on IMDB.com this weekend), and I was stupidly thinking, "Huh? Is this a reference to the movie?"
Forgive me. And you're right -- I was thinking that perhaps he has a bone to pick with that employee. If they've had previous run-ins, I wouldn't blame her for wanting nothing to do with a troublesome customer.
