On Sunday (02/17/2008) I purchased a Hitachi model P50S601, advertised on Sunday online AND in the store as being a 1080p set. I made it CLEAR to the clerk that I wanted a 1080p set (I already have a 1080i). On Monday night (2/18/2008) I read the manual and discover it's a 1080i DISPLAY.

That night I printed Circuit City's description of the product (which was still listed as 1080p). On Tuesday (2/19/2008) morning I looked at the online description and it's stated as being a 1080i display now (and guess what, it's $200 more expensive now!)

In no way do I blame Circuit City for this misinformation, in fact it appears it has happened several times in the past with other retailers dealing with Hitachi. That being said, I do put the onus on Circuit City to make things right.

Today (2/20/2008) I went to the store at which I purchased the television (Jantzen Beach, Portland, Oregon) and spoke with the operations manager. The only thing that he can do for me is offer an exchange for the value of the TV that I purchased, which had 36-month financing (which I can't get on a different TV!), not to mention the fact that I have to borrow a truck AGAIN to return this TV, and take the time out of my day to return it, because he won't pick it up for free without charging me additional SALES TAX and a fee!!!

I am absolutely livid with Circuit City at this point and will be taking my business to BEST BUY after I lug this damned 100-lb television back the the store.

Here's an idea: Allow me to swap for a comparable television of comparable size and comparable resolution WITHOUT additional charge, and let me KEEP MY 36-month financing!

"In no way do I blame Circuit City for this misinformation, in
fact it appears it has happened several times in the past with other
retailers dealing with Hitachi. That being said, I do put the onus on
Circuit City to make things right."

Why? You admit the problem lies with Hitatchi so why would the
"onus" be put on C.C.?

That's like blaming the salesman for not knowing the car he's selling
you is a lemon. "Well, I know that the manufacturer has a
history of problems with this car, but I blame the salesman 'cuz HE
sold it to me."

I hate to say, if the whole 1080p was so important to you, why didn't
YOU ask to see the manual or the packaging? Surely it needs to
specify this somewhere with the tv. A big ticket purchase like this
surely requires more research beyond what the associate told you.

You can point the finger of blame all you want. It's not their fault
if they were told it was a 1080p and Hitatchi shipped them something
different.

Why would I belong to a website were everyone is cutting each other

looking for it!!!! Where's the compassion?

You may be out of gas here. Most ads whether on-line or in print have
some kind of clause about being able to substitute the item for
another if need be. They also ususally have something about errors and
omissions.

Have you tried contacting Hitachi since you are aware that there are
problems with ads that it puts out.

And I'm not new. Harley, RedHead and a few others know that I've been

believe me? Check my personal blogger here. How long have YOU been
here is the question.

"I've been here for quite some time"

Okay, that explains a lot. Your statements that you know what I think
more than I do ("surely does mean that you've grouped me in with
the "angry villagers"), is consistent with other long-time
PFB members.

"Don't believe me? Check my personal blogger here. How long have
YOU been here is the question."

...as is this kind of snarky remark.

I HADN'T included you in the "Angry Villagers", because I
didn't know you, but clearly you are--and that answers my question, of
why you were so certain that the "shoe fits".

Not that it matters one iota, but I was here for the original
incarnation of PFB as well.

You bought a hd1080 product before, and what you purchased is a hd1080
D-I-S-P-L-A-Y, but in a different style case.

their website says, under Hitachi model P50S601,

Overview:

Hitachi Full HD1080 products are a perfect pixel-for-pixel match to
the dominant high definition signal in the marketplace today. The
P50S601 Ultravision® Plasma HDTV utilizes the Full HD1080
resolution standard (1920 x 1080) and has extremely sharp detail with
over 2.1 million individual picture elements. Hitachi's patented

visible grid structure on the panel.

The PictureMaster™ HD IV video processor found in the P50S601
upgrades all incoming signal to match the Full HD1080 panel and
ensures outstanding picture quality regardless of input type or
resolution format.

The Highest quality connection with home A/V devices is delivered with
3-SimplayHD™ HDMI video inputs. These HDMI inputs are 1080p
compatible and include high definition video and audio in a single
cable connection.

Included with the P50S601 is a power swivel stand which allows users
to use the remote control to swivel the TV 30 degrees either direction
for optimum viewing in any part of a room. Another step-up feature is
the addition of a unique black stripe screen filter which blocks
ambient room light and allows the maximum brightness and clarity for
any environment."

Best Buy will charge you for delivery and pick up also.

You may not be able to get 36 month financing on a different TV, but
on most TVs there is some sort of financing promotion being offered.

You will get the full value of your TV back and be able to use it
toward another TV.

Also, online prices can change at ANY time no matter if it's
circuitcity.com, bestbuy.com, amazon.com, etc.

Don't complain about the weight, you're the one who wanted a TV that
size.

And leave out the swearing and caps.
