Upset Seniors Just Over Bottled Water Issues!

Posted Tue March 11, 2008 8:10 am, by Elizabeth P. written to Olive Garden

Write a Letter to this Company  |  Rate this Company

My parents wbo are seniors go to Olive Garden many times in Albquerque, NM. They said to me they spend about $600.00 every three month there to eat.

My dad has limited about of food that he can eat do to his diet. He cannot drink the water there is makes him sick. He always use to bring bottled water there to drink with his meals and there was no complaints.

Now the sales manager walked over to the table and said he can no longer bring his bottled water. The waitress that serves them on a regular basis was devestated.

My parents are so upset over this especially since they were regular customers. My mom said to the sales manager that there was a baby eating baby food that was brought in and you did not say that it was not ok for her and also they provided a dish so the baby can eat the baby food.
Olive Garden just lost dedicated customers all over a bottled water issue that should have not happened. Due to my dad getting sick from drinking water there.

Allow my dad to bring his bottled water in so that he does not get sick and they will become happy returning customers of Olive Garden!

If the water makes him sick he should buy pop from them or bottled
water.

This is an interesting issue, because OG sells bottled water by Knuckles Wed March 12, 2008 @ 10:44 PM

Plus, I hate carbonated waters of any kind, and the waters at OG very
well could of the "sparkling" variety. It's likely he can't do the
carbonated stuff either.

Glad to hear the good news! Just FYI...I have a gastric problem where
I can not always have fountain beverages, so I brought my own bottled
water and crystal light packet to IHOP with me...they told me i could
not have the water...because there is an issue with the diffrent
franchise restaraunts and people have claimed to bring in bottled
water or sodas when it is indeed alcohol spiked in the drink! If this
person leaves the establishment and gets into an accident the store is
at fault. To remedy this, the restaurant now serve bottled water.

Olive Garden in NM just called me today. They said that they will call
my parents to see if they can remedie the situation.

Thank you,

Olive Garden!

Does your parents' OG offer bottled water? by RedheadwGlasses Wed March 12, 2008 @ 6:57 PM

I did not see where they serve bottled water at Olive Garden (unless
this location is different) and since tap water is free this service
manager is off his rocker.

And if your dad is limited to foods because of his health, how healthy
is it to eat at Olive Garden with all the sodium and additives in
their foods.

Geez $200 bucks a month on Olive garden for two people!! If you are
laying down that much money for Olive Garden, I think you can afford
their bottled water. That is what it boils down to. They sell bottled
water, they want you to buy theres.

If you are such a great customer and spend as much as you say you do,
the manager would know who you are. I know who my best customers are.
We do things for our best customers. Make sure you are talking to
the General manager and not a Shift Manager.

Good Day

At my theatre we didn't allow anyone to bring outside food into the
theatres. You were allowed to eat the food in the lobby but in the
paid area you couldn't. We had a woman who was trying to bring in a 2
litre diet pepsi argue with us because she was a dibetic and hated the
taste of diet coke. We refunded her the ticket price as there is a no
outside food or drinks policy. If you make exceptions for one, then
you have to make exceptions for all.
I have to side with Olive Garden on this.

Is anyone wondering why they continue eating at a place that the water
makes them sick? If the water made me sick, I cant imagine whats being
done with the food. Ick.

I think it's more to do with dad's diet than a general water badness... by Steve-Oh Tue March 11, 2008 @ 7:08 PM

If your parents are spending $50 a week at Olive Garden (I assume
that's two visits a week, not one big one), then aren't they regulars
enough that the staff would know them? Is the "sales manager" (I
think you mean just "manager") new?

TOG is not required to allow you to "bring your own water". Being a
senior citizen has zero to do with it. Comparing the situation to an
infant is, well, asinine.

No reason your dad cant buy bottled water there, they do sell it.
Seriously, no offense meant, its a simple issue to resolve.

$600 every 90 days??? Maybe my brain is fuzzy today, but that seem
like an awful lot of money for a moderately priced place.

A baby eating baby food that was brought into the restaurant is
totally different than your father bringing in a bottle of water - -
Olive Garden does not sell baby food but they do sell bottled water.
I'm sorry, but if your parents can afford to spend $200 a month eating
at Olive Garden, then they can afford to buy a couple of bottles of
water from them. And the fact your parents are seniors is also beside
the point - - rules are rules and they apply to everyone.

Overlooking the fact that you rushed through this letter, and have
lots of grammar and spelling mistakes, I would tell your dad to just
buy a bottle of water at TOG. They do sell bottled water. They are
not obligated to allow outside food into their place of business.
They have the right to refuse service to any one, and that includes
not allowing you to bring foregin stuff into the business.

Tell them not to go there, at another restaurant someone brought in
water to take their medicine the owner grabbed the bottle out of their
hand and gave them another one claiming there was a charge on it. He
charged them for water without asking them if they wanted the water or
not. This is one of those small sit down restaurants where you can
eat at a table. Anyways there were a few more events that lead to
this place being shut down because of the rude owner.

Another incident that happened were three friends were spending
ordering lunch. One of them was lookinng at the menu to decide what
to order. There were the only three people there, he yelled at this
person (who is hard of hearing) to hurry up with her order. Then when
they went to pay for the food they each wanted to pay with their own
money, he started yelling at them again saying why don't you just pay
just once instead of all three of you paying together.

A third time the place was not busy, they had a 20 minute limit at the
place for people to eat their food. He grabbed the food before the
people were finished and threw it in the garbage. Then he charged for
the food. There were lots of empty tables at the time.

Finally there was this person that worked in one of the stores in the
mall the restaurant was in. The person was manager. The manager paid
with a $20 bill. This manager has ordered the same food several
times. He yelled at the manager for not bring exact change. He said
that since he orders the same food all the time and since he has
access to the store's vault that he should bring exact change instead
of making more work for him.

Mind you this restaurant went out of business because of the rude
owner. Looks to me like this person at Olive Garden that served your
parents is just the same as the owner of the restaurant that went out
of business.

Also you should report the water that this Olive Garden serves to the
Health Department if it makes your father sick. There is probably
something wrong with the water.

I don't think you can compare a manager that doesn't want a customer to by Steve-Oh Tue March 11, 2008 @ 2:48 PM

by Harleycat Posted Tue March 11, 2008 @ 10:31 AM

Many restaurants have a rule about not allowing outside food or
beverages. Can't he just purchase a bottle of water from them?

The baby food is completely different since Olive Garden has nothing
on the menu suitable for an infant.

Why can't your father just buy water from the OG? They sell bottled
water. Cost isn't a factor since your parents can afford to spend $200
per month just at the Olive Garden.
The baby issue is entirely different. He/she obviously was not old
enough to eat regular food.

The simplest way to deal with this is to have your dad get a note from
his doctor that says that he can only drink bottled water. He may
still get grief (see below), but at least he'll have something to help
make his argument.

The reason I say that he may still get grief is that restaurants can
be nervous about outside items coming in. Mostly, of course, but they
fear it cuts into their profits. But also because it raises concerns
about what's being brought in (is it really water or is vodka?) and
safety issues (will TOG be blamed if the water he brings in is
contaminated). You point about the baby is valid.

I say that if the bottle is sealed and he has a doctor's note, then
TOG needs to butt out.

If not, then unfortunately he'll need to stop eating there. I have a
particular place that I no longer eat because I get sick from
something in their food.
