Really Dismal Service at O'Charley's

Posted Fri March 14, 2008 12:00 pm, by Penny W. written to O'Charley's, Inc.

Write a Letter to this Company

My sister and I are big fans of Half Priced Happy Hour Appetizers at O'Charley's. We like to get them once in a while, and share them between us. We try different things, sometimes get a salad, but we do like to apps at O'Charley's. In fact, as far as chains go, its really one of my favorites.

Anyway, tonight our neice was with us, and she was hungry for O'Charley's so I took my girls to dinner. Let me just say, it was a mistake of epic proportions. For the record when you walk into a restaurant, and the waitstaff is bickering over who has to work which tables...just do yourself a favor and leave.

But we didn't. First, we tell the hostess we are there to get the apps, and are told to go ahead and have a seat in the bar, which we did. No one ever came to take our order. We should have left, but we didn't.

We got up and asked to be seated at a table. The hostess starts leading us down this aisle with booths on one side...there are maybe 6 booths down there, and all are filled but one. I asked we not be crammed in there with all those other eaters, so we are taken to another section nearby.

We decided to forego the apps, and just get dinners. I ask for the appetizer sampler, because I know my sister loves the cheesesticks on it. Our waitress brings our drinks, and that's the last we see of her. Finally, she brings the salads, appetizer and our dinners all at the same time. My neice and sister start gobbling their salads before their dinner's get cold, and the app sampler pretty much goes uneaten.

Some chick comes over to ask how everything is. Bad move. I tell her I am pretty scalded at all of it being brought at once. She says she will bring over the manager, which she does, and I make my complaint...very sweetly, and without my usual sarcasm.

He was just about totally unconcerned.

Then my sister finds a foreign object in her baked potato. She shows it to him, he takes it to be examined, and they tell her it might be a piece of cheese.

Our waitress never came back until we were finished. Needless to say, she didn't get a tip, but if I had left one, it would have read, "don't ignore your table, or you won't get a tip."

The manager did knock off the appetizer and gave us a 10 dollar coupon. Whoopty-freaking-doo. There are about 10 O'Charley's in Lexington, and I think we'll find us a new one to patronize.

Really, nothing to be done.

So I guess the $10 certificate will be used at least.
Which makes me wonder why bother writing a letter now?
You made your point, got your certificate and the manager was told
about the horrible time you had.

As long as the manager compensated you for this then I doubt the main
company will bother.

"and without my usual sarcasm."

Too bad you didn't leave it out of your letter.

There is nothing to be done because they already did it for you.
Appetizers in most places run $5-$10, add another $10 and that's about
$20.

The "chick" reference, and then "whoopty-freaking-doo" says enough for
me.

How mature of you. First you can't make up your mind if you want the
app. or not, which you tell the waitress you don't then you stiff her.
Thats mature. I'm sure they will not miss your business.

I agree with all the responses. There is nothing of epic proportions
here except something going on in your head. I feel sorry for the
server whom you improperly stiffed out of a tip.

Oh, by the way. Shame on you for not tipping. That clearly was wrong
of you. The service you describe is, at worst, worthy of the usual
15%.

First...I thought you didn't order appetizers. Then you did. Then
after she brought your drinks you never saw her again but she brought
out your food.

As far as all of your food being brought out at the same time, that
was probably the kitchen's fault NOT your waitresses. So she might
have been stiffed out of a tip because of someone else's mistake? You
should have at least given her 15%.

I am a little confused. I thought you didn't order an appitizer? Why
when you first walk in would you tell the hostess you were there just
for the apps? You say after she brings your drinks you don't see her
again but then say that she brings the meals. Understand where I am
coming from? If you don't want this nit-picked explain a little
better.

Anyway, you were compensated unless you feel as though your whole meal
should have been free. Just a thought, next time you walk into an
establishment and you get that sort of treatment right off the get go-
walk out, then you have nothing to complain about.

Trust me when I say this you were lied to, it is not a piece of
cheese, if it were it would have melted and if it did not the potatoe
was not baked properly.

Your letter is riddled with inconsistencies and exaggerations, which
calls the entire truthfulness into question. You say the waitress
brings you the drinks, but then you never see her again. But that
isn't the case at all.

You say you decided to skip the appetizers, then you order the
appetizer sampler. To me, that's a meal for someone, so why complain
that it's being brought out at the same time?

You have some very petty complaints that are being blown out of
proportion. And one bad experience is enough for you to never visit
that location again, after you called it one of your very favorite
places to eat?

Yay for O'Charley's. They won't miss you.

So what's your point other than to rant about a situation you consider
to be of "epic proportions"? The manager took the appetizer off your
bill and gave you a $10 coupon. "Whoopty-freaking-doo" - - what else
did you want want from them?

You had some minor issues with service and were compensated for them.
What more do you want?

I, too, do not understand why you took the time to write this letter.
You were already compensated and admit there is nothing else to be
done. What's the point?

Granted, it appears service was not up to par the day you were there.

However, you did not have to pay for the uneaten appetizer and
recevied a $10 coupon. what else are you looking for??
