Really bad experience with the promo sale

I went to CVS in Whitinsville on 5/7/08 to buy some chocolate for the promotion of "Spend $10 on Hershey's, get $5 Extra Bucks". I spent $7.47 on this trip and my receipt stated that I needed to spend an additional $2.52 to get the EB offered. I then went to the Uxbridge store on 5/8/08 and purchased $4.37 in Hershey's products only to have my receipt tell me I still needed to buy another $1.23 in Hershey's! Not understanding why, I purchased another $2.99 in Hershey's and my receipt STILL said I needed to spend another $1.23! At this point, I had spend nearly $15 in Hersheys! I proceeded to email the company when I got home and the response I got was that one item I purchased (jelly beans) was not a part of the promo! I knew that and wasn't counting it toward the total I had spent!!! I then called the company and was told that most of what I had purchased wasn't included in the promo! According to the ad, it said "spend $10 in Hershey, get $5 Extra Bucks" It didn't say spend it on specific items! They said that the stuff I bought (all Easter Candy) was not in the flyer, yet it was because it was all stuff that was on sale!!!!! He said that the next time I went, he would credit my card (within 24-48 hours)with the $5 as a courtesy this one time... well, I went yesterday (4 days after I talked to him) and I didn't receive the Extra Bucks that he had promised!!
Be more responsible and do what their ad promised! If it is only on specific items, the ad should state that!!!! I am still not sure if I will go back there, as this has left a bad feeling! I have shared this experience with several family and friends and they are also considering shopping elsewhere!! The sales and bargains are not what they have advertised them to be!!!!

The math doesn't add up, If ten dollars is needed on the original transaction, then $7.47 plus $2.52 would still leave you one penny short. There must be a glitch in their system or something.
I know it's confusing, I just think there should be some way for a manager to get in touch with corporate to somehow speak on your behalf. I checked the online ad, and this offer isn't on this week's circular. You have reciepts to show you more than qualify.

you meant 3/7/08 and not 5/7/08 since that date is in the future.
I don't think it was that they didnt do what they promised, I think it was that you didnt fully read and understand the ad - I know with CVS and Rite Aid, you have to look very closely at the "deal." There is always some catch like which items to buy or a mail in rebate (and the rebate comes in the form of a store card instead of cash!).
But they did at least offer a credit that you weren't technically entitled to. I would follow up with them about that, but other than that, I can't see what they did that was all that bad.
(And personally, I wouldn't have spent that kind of money on Hershey's - I'd rather have Malley's!)

When my store runs these things there are specific tags under the applicable items. You cant just buy any hersheys brand, you have to buy what Hersheys says you have to buy. If in Doubt, ask for a manager and have them clarify.
Good Day
