America's Next Top Model and the Horrifying Misuse of Meat

Posted Wed March 19, 2008 12:00 pm, by Jennifer L. written to The CW Network

On Wednesday, March 12, 2008, on "America's Next Top Model," with Tyra Banks, the model's on this show were asked to have their photos taken wearing meat. Most of the models used the meat as accessories and one actually chose to wear meat as an undergarment. After viewing this for a few minutes, I was enraged at the disgusting use of meat - that was once a life.

Why did The CW Network, the show, Tyra Banks etc. feel that this would be something entertaining? It was completely and utterly horrifying. I felt so sorry for the animals that had to die for such... I don't even have words for this senseless, inhumane action.

As I searched The CW Network website, I could not locate an address or phone number or any other way of contacting them. While at the bottom of the web page, I noticed advertising for a new, "green" show coming on. How could this network, possibly have the nerve to air something about the environment, when they have so little affection for animals?

I would like either Tyra Banks or the producers of the show to make a public apology.. and do something pro-animal on their show.

What on Earth was the point of that challenge - show you can look good
in anything?

I am far more concerned that the C-W and Ms. Banks felt that was
"entertaining" moreso than an affront to the carcass of a former
animal.

That is nasty and in my opinion just plain stupid. I don't watch the
show. From reading this, the show doesn't seem worth watching. Ikk!

I would be more concerned about the wasted food. That and not to
mention the ick factor of cross contamination disease like salmonella
or E coli.

that anyone watches anything with Tyra Banks in it or ANTM. I've
tried both, and each made me feel ill.

Disgusting.

Meanwhile, it wouldn't hurt the model-wannabes on that show to eat a
sandwich or two. It's a stupid, stupid show that appeals to so many
things that are wrong with the "idealistic" images we have about women
in this country.

I checked their website and it has a contact us button that brings up
your email window with their address.

I'm on the fence with this letter. I saw the photos on wb's website,
the meat looks fake. I doubt they'd use real meat.

I found a lot more to be offeded over than meat. Let's face it, this
show is using shock value to get ratings. Women with whips, dressed in
leather, posing suggestively is pretty much expected.

I'm more offended by the use of crime scenes and homeless people as
themes and backdrops. If this letter was about leather, then I could
see animal rights issues. The title of this season's series is "New
York Meat Packing District", it should be a clue not to tune in.
