Wouldn't surprise me. Most hotels never change the bedspread or the blankets, let alone washing a robe. I had a friend who used to work in a nice hotel and she said they only changed the bedspreads or blankets if it was really, really necessary! I always bring my own blankets and a pillow. A place can look spotless, but deep down it is not really clean.

"I would like a complementary night or two."
I think a robe would be more like it.

I can't imagine wanting a complementary night or two at a place that allowed something "disgusting" to happen. If the robe was high quality, perhaps they could send a brand new robe, heretically sealed and sanitized for my protection.
The thought does make my skin crawl. I would bring this to their attention after showering again upon check out.

And then on top of it you want 2 nights free? Yah, right! Like that is going to happen.
If you're a dog owner, think of it this way. They lick everything, and I mean everything and then give us a kiss and we don't mind. And most of us don't think that's gross.
Let us know if you get the freebie! I won't bet on it though.

I don't understand this. They give you a robe to try on, and instructions on how to purchase it, correct? Ok, suppose you don't want to buy it? That means they should clean it before the next guest arrives, whether it was used or not - just to be sure. Correct so far? Well, if that's the case, why would ANYONE want to purchase a robe, never mind if it's been worn before, that's been through the wash already at least once (or probably more)?
When I purchase an article of clothing, not only do I want it without it ever being worn before, but also never been washed as well. I want it brand spanking new, fresh out of a package.
Sorry, there's just something about this letter that sounds fishy. Your request for a complimentary night or two just adds to the fishiness.

I know that these big fluffy robes and a perk at high-end hotels, but since I won't wear anything without washing it first I wouldn't assume that a robe in a room was clean.
While I can understand your complaint, I don't think it warrants "a complementary night or two".

You say that you put the robe on after your shower and THEN read the instructions on how to purchase it.
Thus, it was on YOUR naked wet body as well and you decided you didn't want it after you found the receipt. But my question is this: Why wouldn't you look at the purchase directions and check the robe out BEFORE putting it on YOUR OWN naked, wet body?
Personally, I wouldn't try ANYTHING on my bare skin that I had to pay for until I was SURE I wanted it.
Gross as this could seemingly be, something seems off with this. I hate to say the whole thing just sounds fishy. It makes it look as if you put the robe on, decided it was too much money and then complained that the robe was used. That's just how it comes across as I'm reading this. Esp. when you demand "a complimentary night or two" from this high end hotel in return.

While I agree that leaving an unwashed robe in your room was icky, I don't see how this entitles you to "a complementary night or two". You were there 3 nights, so you're basically asking for another vacation on them. A bit much, I think. Maybe a free robe (washed, this time) ;)

I've always assumed that the robes were used by someone else. Which is why I've never put one of them on.
While most people are going to just toss it on the floor, I'm sure there are a few people that (thinking they are polite) will hang it back in the closet.
Ditto for towels. And don't get me started on bed covers or even blankets.

Sounds like a prank by someone that stayed in the room before you.
They put the receipt in the pocket knowing it would not be found until the person who has the room next puts on the robe.
Then the person that puts on the robe gets grossed out over it. Sounds like the prank worked!
Good Day

I don't know about a free "night or two," but I feel for you. I cleaned hotel rooms as a young teenager, and I can't imagine doing what that room's maid did -- unless the wearer hung it up/folded it up as if he/she never used it.
