mcdonalds does it again

Posted Sun April 13, 2008 12:00 pm, by EVELYN G. written to McDonald's

Write a Letter to this Company  |  Rate this Company

Hi, I received a very interesting phone call from Mcdonalds resturant here in Holiday Florida.(4/13/08) This is all stemming from the deep fried bug complaint I posted on Planet feed back 2 weekd ago. Someone from the corporate office sent me an email and said someone would contact me. Well, he did his name was O****, who refused to give me his last name. He was very rude, and told me what the he@# else do u want us to do? I replied all I ever wanted was an apology and a refund the day it happened. he stated that was offerd, I told him that it was not, for that matter I was told my claim was forwarded to McDonalds Insurnce people and that it was no longer up to the Mgr of that resturaunt. He said I should have just excepted the $350.00 offered, and now Im not getting a thing from them and Hung up on me. The letter offering me #350.00 also stated If i sign the letter I was agreeing to remove all fault and blame from McDonalds ( so no apology) and I had to agree not to bring the event back up ever to anyone. so I didnt sign. It was about excepting responsibility, a common Thread we raise our children on, the same Children we take to Mcdonalds every day. However now it has really gotten ridiculous, as he really made things worse by acting like a jerk. Again I have been insulted!! So I just wanted to share on this mishap and we will see where it goes from here. Evelyn

I only wanted my Refund and expected an apology. but this is getting absolutly beyond the scope of Good Business. I now want a apology from O**** or whoever he was, McDonalds, J**** for Lieing from the Great Central Argonaut group. my Refund. my money for mailing 5 certified Letters just to get my original 10 dollars back. the check for $350.00 Offered in lieu of an apology. this time with an apology.

If your post was not quite so scathing and had a few less mistakes in
spelling and grammar, I would think maybe you are an intelligent
person. Instead you sound like an ignorant jerk that wants to complain
and make a few bucks doing it. Was anyone honestly hurt? Are you
dying now because of a deep fried bug? I am sure you or someone in
your family has accidentally eaten a bug a time or twenty in your
lifetime without your knowledge. Get over it and quit being such a
stuck up ignorant fool.

Last year I was at a McDonalds here in Louisville and witnessed
domestic violence. I tried to help the lady that was being abused by
her husband. The husband stood up and tried to hit me. I asked the
manager to call the police and she said no she wasn't getting
involved. I went outside and the man tried to run over me with his
car, then the manager decided to call the police. McDonalds SUCK.

There's nothing wrong with wanting an apology. I read a study
somewhere that a heartfelt apology may, in fact, actually reduce the
rate of lawsuits in certain situations. People just want to hear a
mea culpa when there's a mistake. I don't think insurance companies
agreed with that study though.

However, you're at an impasse. You want an apology; McD's isn't going
to give you one. It may very well be there's a clause in their
insurance contract that they won't be covered in the event of a
lawsuit if they admit wrong-doing (and many people think an apology =
admission of wrong-doing). So they feel like they can't apologize.

I know you say you didn't want the settlement in the first place and I
believe you. But, realistically, I think that if you want to get some
closure to this matter, you should take their offer of settlement.

Just my $.02.

Blame our sue-happy society. McDonald's cannot say they are sorry,
for fear of lawsuit. It's sad, but true. That's why they wanted to
have you sign the simple waiver, in exchange for the $350 offer.
Personally, I would have taken the $350 and ran, as I think that's
more than fair for what you went through.

It sucks, but a bug can happen.

Big companies prefer not to apologize, it admits fault and may put
them in a deeper situation for doing so.

The money offered is a lot for a fried bee, or even in place of an
apology. However, it's not a lot to pay you to have you keep your
mouth closed about the issue. Depends on how you want to look at it.

I do understand that it's about the principal of it, and you may have
been insulted by the reason behind their offer since it didn't come
with what felt like sincerity behind it. My grandmother got into a
car accident 15 or so years ago in which she was hit by someone. Her
rib cage broke and her heart stopped. It almost took her life. They
(my grandparents) were considering it an accident and not going to do
anything. However, the faulty driver's lawyer approached my
grandmother with papers to sign off on, that stated she would not seek
any damages, and Grandma was very insulted. My grandparents came from
a different time and did not understand this suing thing, but this
incident with the lawyer and the papers changed their mind, and in the
end, did wind up suing which they have never done in their lives.

I understand to some degree how you felt. But if you aren't hurt or
injured permanently, I think I'd either take the $350 or let it go.
They are most likely not going to budge on this. They are protecting
themselves is all.

I understand that you CLEARLY have nothing better to do with your time

this, but the reality is that they aren't gonna.

You admit that you didn't sign that claim because you weren't willing
to shut up and let it go. They offered you MUCH MORE than the
incident was worth (IMHO) and your continual carrying on about it only
makes you look more like an opportunistic gold digger than a vicitm.

Nobody who is smart and has consulted an attorney would apologize for
a situation such as this. It's the same reason companies are not able
to apologize when someone is injured on their property etc. etc. If
you wanted to, you could receive the apology and turn right around and
sue McDonald's. And then what are they to say? Yes we apologized but
we still aren't at fault. Doesn't make much sense.

We as American's have become sue happy. Every time we trip and fall,
every time a mistake is made, every time something goes wrong we are
looking for someone to sue. Someone that we can blame. So, in this
instance you are blaming McDonald's for serving you up a bug (a bee to
be precise if I remember correctly). So think about this a moment, is
McDonald's really at fault here? Do you think that they knowingly
stuck this creature in to the deep fryer knowing that it would be
served to some unknowing customer? I highly doubt it.

McDonald's is being more than generous. I'm with the manager, what
more could you possibly want? Get over this already!
