Baggage Claim - POOR SERVICE

Posted Mon May 5, 2008 2:18 pm, by Toby D. written to AirTran Airways

Write a Letter to this Company

My flight originated in Atlanta,GA, and my destination was to Orlando. For some reason I had to go to Philidelphia for a 45 minute layover and then down to Orlando. When I checked in at Atlanta Airport the woman that was helping me said that she had to do a manual baggage ticket because I was flying into to Philadelphia. Didnt understand why since it should have been treated as a normal flight with an layover. But she seemed puzzled and decided to do the manual ticket.

Nevertheless landed in Orlando at about 10:30pm, went down to baggage claim, everyone got their baggage and no luggage for me.

Went into the Airtran office and the filed a claim.

I am dealing with hypertension (high blood pressure) and in the luggage was my medication. So I was extremely sick for 26hrs before I got a call about my luggage.

So I got a call and my luggage was in Houston, TX and the next flight would not get in until 6pm the next day.

So i was forced to go pay for more medication, some clothes and toiletries to get me through my business meetings for that day.

When I called the air tran office at orlando, they were very rude and said they will get the bag to me within a few hours, but no later than 11pm, whic is 5 hours after it gets in. that pissed me off, that after explaining why I needed my bag, that it still did not matter.

I would like a Business Class roundtrip ticket.

If anything you may be reimbursed for having to buy some medication
but I doubt at this time with the airline industry as it is will you
get reimbursed for a Business Class roundtrip ticket. The problem
occured on one leg of the trip not both.

I can't believe you stowed important medication in checked luggage.
The fact you were sick for 26 hours was your fault, not the
airline's.

Did your parents teach you to write things such as "pissed me off" in
business letters?

AirTran owes you nothing more than the standard apology for misplacing
your luggage.

since when do you get to disregard common sense and posted advisories,
get your stuff lost, and then NAME YOUR PRIZE?

unbelievable.

It's not cool that they lost your luggage. Let this be a lesson to you
that next time you pack your meds and some emergency clothes (i always
pack for one day) in your carry on.

I can't believe how rude the responders on this post are. It's NOT ok
for Aitran to have lost this persons luggage. That is POOR customer
service - plain and simple. What if it were YOUR luggae that had
gotten lost, with your medication or something you deemed valuable?
How would you feel? Who checks in their luggage expecting it to get
lost? I'm really wondering if the people who responded work for
Airtran or if they are just heartless people.

You said you were sick for 26 hours, but you also said you had to pay
more for meds THAT DAY.

That sounds like you are saying two differnt things. Or I am reading
wrong again? ( I am known to do this, lol)

RIDICULOUS. There is signage at the St. Paul/Minneapolis
international international airport regarding not packing things like
jewelry, cameras, and prescription meds in one's luggage.

And really... IT'S JUST COMMON SENSE.

I'm 100% done feeling bad for anyone who is foolish enough to do this
and then they get burned when their luggage gets lost, stolen, or
manhandled by airport security personnel.

Done. Think ahead, people. Sheesh.

Reply
by Jeanie Posted Tue May 6, 2008 @ 9:48 AM

But the rule is if you can't live without it for twenty-four hours, or
it would kill you if it were stolen, do not put it in your checked
luggage. Medications are at the top of that list. Other than that,
all that AirTran is responsible for is your outlay for clothes and
toiletries.

You seem determined, Toby, to get a free ticket one way or another.
In your other letter you accused the attendant of discrimination, and
now you're pissed off about your luggage. Unless you are looking for
TWO free tickets, I agree with another poster who advised
consolidating your complaints into one letter.

by Harleycat (aka Usual Suspect #2) Posted Mon May 5, 2008 @ 3:28 PM

Believe me, you got your luggage back in record time and this
certainly does not warrant a round trip business ticket.

As others have said, never, never, never pack your medication in your
checked luggage. You are allowed to take prescription medication in
your carry on bag.

Reply
by PurPink Posted Mon May 5, 2008 @ 2:33 PM

I can understand wanting reimbursement for clothes you had to
purchase.

Tolietries - you would need anyway and you will use them.

Medication - sorry but that was your own fault.

You scenario isn't worthy of an RT ticket.

Reply

by SuzieCat Posted Mon May 5, 2008 @ 2:29 PM

If so, you may want to rewrite just one letter, for the sake of
clarity.

Also, never, never, ever put needed meds in checked baggage. No
offense, as a frequent flier, you should know this. Luggage gets lost
all teh time. Kepp your meds in your pocket, in a carry on bag, evey
a few in a small baggie in your wallet.
