Dear Nordstrom Stores:
About a week ago I applied for a Nordstrom Credit Card and was denied because of too many inquires. I spoke to a nice representative and asked for a reconsideration but was also denied.
As a college student, I'm proud that I am working on my credit this early and hope to see my credit experience and history grow. I'm starting to pay off all my credit card accounts to help my utilization. I am currently employed fulltime as an Engineer Sales Administrator with an annual income of $38500.00.
Now, I understand that I don't have a right to be granted credit by Nordstrom. Your company has its thought-out policies and enforces them. But I'm asking that you reconsider my application and start me out with the lowest amount possible Nordstrom deems appropriate.
As you can see in my credit report, I always pay on time and am never late. Also, my credit history is somewhat limited since I am a Junior in college, and can only have up to two years of history because of age requirements. But my two years have been nearly flawless in my estimation.
I pledge that I will be responsible to my account with Nordstrom like I am with my other accounts elsewhere.
I would venture to say, that were you to approve my reconsideration request, you will have a devout and loyal customer for years to come. I just want to get my foot in with a great company that takes customer service seriously and takes pride in the same. I would love to be issued a card even with a lower than normal credit limit. Let me show you that I'll be a good, no, GREAT customer.
Thank you.

You don't need credit cards at all. You don't even need a FICO score. You just need to live on what you earn. It's a radical concept I know!
You can still rent a car with a check car, don't believe that lie, Hertz and most of the major carriers accept them.
And yes, if you must you could still get a home loan without a fico score, you just get a loan that is manual underwritten, which is more accurate than a fico score.
All a fico score is a "I love debt" number. Some people swear by their "rewards". You never hear millionaires say they made it rich by their "rewards" If you play with the snakes, you will eventually get bit. Just read all the stories on here about good people that got bit by the snakes.
Good Day

I get cash back on the things I *need*. I have used a credit card responsibly for 20+ years. I use them for all my necessities. Groceries, gas, auto supplies, building supplies, clothing, dining out, etc etc etc. I use it for everything.
I now am retired and spend about $1000 per month with my card. My average cash reward is around 3.5% on the things I buy. So that's $35 a month the credit card bank is giving me to buy the things I need, not want. Never paid a penny interest. Since you are such a champion of cash, you should understand the obvious benefit of having a never ending $1000 interest-free loan. Or maybe you are too wrapped up in your snakes to pull your head out.
It would actually be a great idea for this young person to establish a good credit history. Sadly, he is off on the wrong foot already. Maybe he can learn the error of his ways. You seem to have written him off completely. There are many people who can use a credit card to their advantage. All it takes is being a smart consumer, which you present yourself as.
What I love now, having established such a good record, is getting credit with no questions asked even though I have no job. Who else is going to allow me to use their money? What good would having always used cash do me when I seek a new interest-free loan?

How many people are going to come here to compliment the credit card industry for affording them interest-free loans and giving them money? These people have nothing to complain about. And they probably don't want to ruin a darned good thing. I think I wrote a tongue in cheek letter (gasp) to Chase thanking them for their wonderful rewards program and having afforded me interest-free loans for a couple of decades. But seriously, why would we hear any of the countless positive experiences? No, we hear from people who are making minimum monthly payments, paying 9, 11, 13% and higher interest and want to see increased spending limits and lower rates. This is our education system gone terribly wrong.
Think of the 10's of thousands of people who are enjoying the use of their credit cards on other people's nickel. I have a lifelong friend who is good with money and he does the same as I. Enjoys the convenience and banks the rewards checks when they come. Has he become a millionaire off his checks? No, but as a family man with bills and they help him buy groceries. He probably is a millionaire. There must be many many people who have the proper discipline to use a card properly.
You pay higher prices when you buy stuff to subsidize my convenience. I want to thank YOU while I am throwing the accolades around. I'm not just saying it, I really REALLY appreciate the loan to which you have contributed your hard earned cash.

Why do you want a store credit card so badly? Why not get a Visa or Master Card, and one that has cash rewards?
I am always surprised to see people say they pay their cards on time, but they are carrying a balance. I have never paid anything less than the balance, and always on time. Every single time for 20 years.
If you are only paying part of your bill, and in two years you have been "nearly flawless", you do not sound like a good credit risk. Your payments need to be the full balance and on time, or you don't need another credit card. They don't want your pledge, they want a good record.
