Drive-thru "service"?

My friend and I were on a lunch break and stopped by McDonald's today. I pulled up to the speaker and began to order. After I stated one sandwich, the woman cut me off, gave the total and told me to pull up. I said that I was not finished ordering and she let me continue. The order was not complicated, consisting of only 5 things, but she again tried to cut me off at the end of each one.
After I finally got my order out, I drove up to the window and my order was pushed into my hands. I asked for two handfuls of ketchup (yes, we are ketchup greedy) and the man at the window only put 3 packets in the bag. I asked again for extra ketchup and he thrust 2 more packets at me and promptly shut the window.
Not satisfied with merely 5 packets of ketchup, my friend then walked into the McDonald's and asked the person at the counter for ketchup packets and even then, she had to argue to get 3 packets. Finally, my friend got so frustrated that she ended up pumping ketchups into the little cups and we had to drive back to work, careful not to spill ketchup in the car.
Please train the staff to listen to the customer, no matter what time of day. Even if it's the lunch rush, take the time to let the customer say what they want and then let them have it. If I ask for something, give it to me and don't be cheap about it. A few ketchup packets won't kill you!

Two handfuls of ketchup seems to be alot & is a very vague request. I know that when I have fries along with my son, we need 8 ketchup packets. So I ask for 8. Now, if I'm going home or back to work, where I have access to a ketchup bottle, it's not a big deal so whatever they throw in is fine. Try requesting a specific number of packets - you might have more success.

Has anyone looked at the price it is to buy the packets of stuff, such as honey or the jams? Its outragious!
I totally understand the need to limit the amount given out and they should charge people for extras.

I'm in agreement with everyone else. Just because you are "ketchup greedy" doesn't meant that McDonalds needs to give you two handfuls. It means you have to either carry ketchup with you *OR* offer to pay for more ketchup from the food establisment(sp).
Also regarding the speaker cutting you off, it may have been that you were pausing too long after each item. My boyfriend does this. He says one item and then pauses to wait for the speaker to acknowledge. But they actually take his silence as him being done and wanting the total. I don't think you should rush through your order, but the speaker is pressing buttons as you talk. If you're just stopping after each thing, she could have taken that as you completing your order, thus she gave you the total.

When your friend was arguing to get three more packs of ketchup on top of the 5 you already had, did they offer to let you have more if you paid for it? Ketchup costs McD's money, you know. They provide you a reasonable amount for your meal - not enough to stock your cabinets at home.

Ketchup is a necessary evil at McDonald's. With any other condiment I would say it's too much to have extras, but with ketchup, if you have 5 items, that might be two packets each, depending on the size of the item (burger etc). Although, I have to say two handfuls could be A LOT of ketchup with much of it ending up later wasted in the garbage or never used. We wind up with extras and I'm tired of them, so I started putting them back on the counter now when we go inside. I don't even want to take them home anymore.
I don't even think it's about the ketchup as much as it is with having two packets shoved at you, which sounds a bit abrupt on their part. They could have said "Sorry be we are currently limiting, or short on ketchup right now", if it was a problem.

But weren't YOU being cheap about it? Were you unwilling to pay for more ketchup packets?

I'm mostly on your side. I can't eat fast food without ketchup packets. But I know exactly how many I need. Three for an egg biscuit. Two for a plain hamburger. Four for a Big Mac (man, I haven't had one in over a year, and my mouth watered as I typed it). When I first went to Jamaica, I brought enough ketchup packets that I would have three packets per meal for a week (I require ketchup for eggs, bacon, hamburgers, etc.).
But asking for "two handfuls" seems rather excessive.
I also keep ketchup packets at work.
People who REQUIRE ketchup learn to keep it on hand for emergencies.

Back when I rode my dinosaur to work at McDonald's, the rule of thumb was 1 packet for a "small" fry and two for a "large". Those were the only sizes available at the time.
If a customer asked for "ketchup", that's what we'd give. If the customer asked for "6 ketchups", we'd give that.
Here's what gets me: I'd pick up lunch for co-workers. One would order 5 chicken strips(not the nuggets); he specified the flavor of sauce he wanted. I'd get 3 little tubs of sauce. For 5 pieces of chicken.
But heaven forbid I ask for SALT. They'd have to dig through their bins to locate a packet of SALT. McDonald's has built a business on grease, caffeine and SALT. So I'm ordering for three people(3 main dishes, 3 fries, 3 drinks), and they can scrape up ONE packet of salt.
(Yes, I have purchased salt shakers and containers of Morton's to keep at work. Somehow, they disappear
....)
But also, McDonald's salt is of a finer grain than Morton's, and it really sticks to the fries better. If I'm taking food to work, I'll use what I can. But if I'm eating in my car, I want my salt. I hate that they act like I'm asking for something weird.
But I digress. You can go inside and grab packets; go inside and pump ketchup into the little cups(come on, the only reason you'd "spill" is that you're not being even moderately careful); or specify the exact number of packets you'd like. Or, as someone suggested, go to Sam's or Costco and buy a case.

There's a reason why these places no longer put packets of condiments out on their counters...people grab handfuls fat a time for their own use.
These places are not in business to supply you with condiments...only an appropriate amount is given for fries or sandwiches any more.
A few of us here at work get together and purchase boxes of these condiment packets from from places like GFS, Sams or Costco. We always have some on hand and we share the cost. I suggest you do the same as fast food places are not going to be giving you a "couple of handfuls" of catsup any more!

I saw you were completely unresaonable about the ketchup. Buy a bottle and put it in your car. Come on, don't be CHEAP.
This complaint should be deleted by the poor sap who reads it at McD's.

I'm sorry, I really think 8 packs of ketchup are more than enough. There has to be a limit. If you want more, you should pay, just like when someone wants extra dipping sauce for McNuggets.
Why are you writing this letter on your friend's behalf when she also wrote one herself?
