Hatred of Wegmans Products and W-Kids Age

Wegmans brands are just as good or better than the national brands
(which is what I assume you mean by the "real deal", and they are
almost always less expensive. At least half of the food in my house is
Wegmans brand, and I will only buy good quality food.

As far as the child care goes, you are lucky that Wegmans (or any
store) would provide child care for children of any age. Sorry your
kid is too spoiled or undisciplined to go grocery shopping with you,
but that is your problem and likely your fault.

I especially like how they label their products with special labels
indicating that the product is Vegan, Lactose Free, and Gluten Free.
My son is lactose intolerant (severely) and I have come to find that
there is lactose in many things that you would not expect, these
labels help me to select products that are truly lactose free.

There isn't a Wegmans near me, but we do have a Shaw's with a
child-care room. Only my middle son ever wanted in there. He was about
3 or 4 at the time.
He's six now, and they have put a Hannaford supermarket in closer to
my house, so I've been shopping there for the past two years. (Mostly
because of, wait for it...all the STORE BRAND items they carry! Same
stuff as the "real deal", only way cheaper!). They don't have a
child-care room, but thankfully, my kids like to shop with me. All
four of them. My 10-year-old is the best when I shop. He might ask for
EVERYTHING, but I get done in half the time, because he'll ask what's
next on the list, and will run off to find it while I move on to the
item after that. I bet if you elisted your son's "help" while you
shopped, he'd come to enjoy it.
And to be quite honest, if W-Kids did allow your son in, would he even
go? He might not like shopping, but don't you think he'd be mortified
to be in the "baby room"? I know my oldest son wouldn't have anything
to do with that room at Shaw's, because it was full of preschoolers.

Wow, to think that Wegman's is in business to make a profit - so
greedy. Well, if enough people think like you all we'll have left is
Wal-Mart.

I have yet to go to Wegmans to know what you are talking about with
Wkids. I heard they are a wonderful store and very friendly and highly
customer oriented which is driving their popularity.
Aldi's has alot of their own brand in their own store too. But I know
theirs is good.

I'm not sure what the OP means by the "real deal". real deal of what?
I love shopping at Wegmans, produce is brought in by local farmers
when in season and the prices are decent and I personally think the
wegmans brand foods are great!

If I cannot avoid bringing my 5 year old to the store with me...guess
what? He sits in that cart and waits for me to get done, we play I spy
and other silly games just to keep him occupied while I get groceries.
I don't like those kids areas in stores, I feel like its a breeding
ground for illness.

As for "profit going right into wegmans pocket", well, they ARE in
business to make a profit I assume?

Wait, so... You hate to see Wegmans making profit, but you shop there?

I've never been in a grocery store where sitting is provided. How
about you prepare your kids for real life by teaching them to tolerate
with grace the things they don't like? Or better yet, let them help.
Split up part of your list and let them find the items. Kids are
occupied, your shopping takes less time.

a Wegman's trip is in order. If it ever stops raining today I'm going
to get a bookcase at Target, which is in the same shopping center.
Green apple sorbet sounds yummy. (It'll go well with my Snapple green
apple white iced tea.)

See now, you make it sound like it doesn't cost Wegman's anything to
produce these products. I don't know how Wegman's operates, but I'm
going to assume they're like every other supermarket chain. Store
brand products are not made by the store chain itself. They are made
by a complete different company and the supermarket chain pays for the
right to place their label on it.

Things may have changed in the 25 years since I last worked for a
grocery store, but when I worked for Safeway back then, it was
well-known among employees that Safeway's brand of soft drink (then
known as Cragmont) was actually produced by RC Cola, and that Safeway
just paid for the right to use the Cragmont label.

Point is, it may be cheaper for the grocery store to have it's own
"brand", but the profit margin is probably very close to the same as
name-brand products, since the store brand is always cheaper.

I've yet to find a store that doesn't have a lion's share of it's own
brand of products. How is this disgusting? And they're in the business
of making money, so where else would the profits need to go?

I'm baffled at this whole complaint. Perhaps there are other avenues
in food stores for you to explore locally? I don't know that I'd
continue to patronize a store that disgusted me and made me so
miserable.

I really doubt Wegman's will eliminate their own product line. If you
want your request taken seriously, why not drop the insults and tell
them exactly what you don't like about specific products, and give
them an opportunity to improve them?

And it's not Wegman's responsibility to watch your kid while you shop.

I understand that at times a brand name v.s the Wegman's name product
may vary, but if you put them side by side without a label you would
probably never know the difference especially in milk, eggs and such.

But please...someone explain about the kids ages ...from what she
wrote her 10yrs old child can no longer go into Wegman's??? I mean
don't these kids go in with their parents anyway???

I don't know what a "W-kids" is, but I am a Wegman's shopper.

It is a great store. Yes, a lot of items are popping up with their
name on them. The ones use are: sour cream, milk, butter, eggs,
frozen pizza, pancake syrup, pasta, bread.

I'm pretty picky and not prone to substituting a store brand. But
what I have found is that all the products I have tried at Wegman's
are of top quality. Their self-rising Pizza is fanatastic. The
Multigrain and Whole Grain bread loaves are as good as any other
brand.

I haven't been disappointed in anything branded Wegman's yet, but the
list I gave is about all I have tried. I am wondering what products
you have tried that are "yucky".

Wegman's caters to a very wide range of shoppers. I used to frequent
a warehouse market here, and always assumed Wegman's was a store for
people with fat wallets and snooty attitudes. When I started shopping
there, I found that their prices are competitive, and they have higher
quality (and priced) items for the well-heeled shopper as well. For
example, the meat department has a wide range of grades of meat. You
can pay $90 for a prime rib roast, or $27.

I was shocked that you used a phrase such as "disgusting Wegman's
branded food." Perhaps you could provide details (that would be
useful to Wegman's) as to specific items.
