Now I Know Why I Stopped Going to Blockbuster

We went to the Blockbuster in Nanuet, NY because my sons wanted to buy a game and there was a sale advertised at the store. The sale stated buy one get one free. When we got to the store, upon close inspection, the sign said it was for games under 14.99. Rhese advertisments were all over the Wii section, yet there were no games that qualified for the sale. But, when you look closely at the price stickers you can see that many of the prices were raised because of the sale. Alot of them were only 12.99 before the sale and then were raised so that they do not qualify. Thats the first thing I find outrageous.
The next thing is when I asked management about this. He stated I was breaking the law removing stickers. We never removes any stickers. Then he said I should stop complaining and get a life. My kids still wanted a game, so we decided to rent one. Since we haven't used our card in a long time, the credit card attached to the account was expired. Instead of asking me for a new card, he shouted out that my card was declined so that everyone on line can hear it. There were friends of my sons on the line with their parents and both my children and myself were terribly embarrassed.
When I called to tell the corporate office about this they said the regional manager would get back to me. When she called me, she said she would talk to the manager who embarrassed me and would take down the false advertisements in the Wii section.
When we went to the store again about ten days later, the manager was being rude to another customer and the signs were still up falsly advertising that the Wii games were on sale.
I dont know how I should be compensated for my embarrassment but I do know it cant be tolerated. Now I know why I stopped going to Blockbuster in the first place.

I don't know about the raised prices part, but the other thing happened to me. They had two huge racks and an 8-foot-long table full of DVDs. Signs were posted all over for Buy One Get One Free. I spent at least 20 minutes going through them all and choosing 6 movies. When I picked up the last one my eyes were drawn to the tiny, tiny print that said $9.99 or less movies only. Just one out of my 6 "qualified". I walked the length of the table again and saw only one other movie that I could have gotten. I put all the DVDs down and left annoyed. But I haven't used my Blockbuster card in ages, so who knows what problem I would have encountered anyway!

Good idea to stop going to Blockbuster.
We have a Family Video within walking distance. We've used that. My husband has subscribed to Netflix, and we love it!!
Last spring I ran into Blockbuster, looking to buy a used DVD to use in school. They had it, and I stood in line with cash in hand.
The cashier wanted my Blockbuster card. I was confused--I said, "I'm BUYING it" and put forward my cash. It didn't matter. They needed the card, which was at home. It's not even like I was using a 50 or 100 bill.
I left the DVD on the counter and walked out. (And I really, really needed that DVD.) I'd already checked Family Video and the library. All copies were out. This is when my husband showed me the magic of Netflix.
We ordered it to be shipped immediately, and I had it the next day.
I won't ever go into Blockbuster again. Imagine a store refusing a CASH sale.

This experience sounds like a great reason to shop elsewhere. You let them know in person and via this letter - now you just need to choose a new place to shop. Good luck.

The only good compensation from Blockbuster is to stop going there at all. That in itself should be reward enough for you.
It's just plain wrong to up prices just before a sale like this...and it appears to have been a sale ploy by BB.
But then all sales have to be approved by at least the district/regional manager I would assume. So, I think you were being pacified when you called the regional manager to complain. And you can see this for yourself because they still have the signs up and the elevated price stickers on the games.
Go to places like Game Exchange or other stores such as this. While their prices are sometimes elevated you still have the opportunity to sell back the game and get another. They buy these back depending on how popular the game is.

You shouldn't. It doesn't warrant compensation. Most things in life don't.
But I'm glad you are complaining about this horrible manager. Hopefully, *something* will get done.

The signage is probably part of the corporate plan o gram, they tell you where to put signage, so your beef is with corporate.
When an item goes from a sale price to BOGOF, buy one get one free, it goes to regular retail, so the regular retail sticker is placed on top of the sale price.
This is how it is in my line of work, which is the grocery business.
I always tell people to voice concerns such as advertisement to corporate.
Good Day
