Honest Employee at WalMart Makes My Day!

Posted Mon September 29, 2008 12:00 pm, by W H. written to Walmart

Write a Letter to this Company  |  Rate this Company

I was shopping today at the WalMart store in Fallon, NV. I had with me my two children, ages 1 and 4. I was planning on using a WIC voucher, so I had the voucher and my WIC ID folder with me, also. During the time that I was shopping, my ID folder and voucher fell out of my pocket. I did not notice until I was ready to check out. I quickly retraced all my steps and was not able to locate my folder. On a last-ditch effort, I went to Customer Service to see if anyone had turned it in. To tell you the truth, I was not expecting anyone to turn it in. In this day and age when the price of groceries is going up and up, finding a voucher AND the folder is like finding $20 on the floor.

As I neared the Customer Service desk, I noticed a long line. I offered up a quick prayer to have my things returned to me, and took my place in line.

No sooner had I finished praying than a gentlemen pushing what appeared to be a janitorial cart came up next to me and on top of his cart was my WIC folder! I asked if I could see it and saw that it was mine. I offered him my driver's liscense so he could see that I was not trying to scam him. He checked and then asked me to check to see if my voucher was still inside. It was!! I thanked him repeatedly and went to check out.

I regret that I was so thrilled and amazed to find everything so quickly that I didn't get a good look at his name tag. I believe his name was Eli, but I could be mistaken and apologize if I am!

I just want to be sure that you are made aware that you have a very honest man working in your store and I want to make sure that he receives whatever recognition is offered at the store to show appreciation for his integrity.
I, and my family, thank him again for doing the right thing!

I'm amazed that for once that someone is actually being nice enough to
put forth a display of Gratitude. Now days so many people are more
then willing to give an attitude but never the actual gratitude that
is deserved.

Wow, a positive letter for once; and one that helped to renew my faith
in humanity just a little. ^^

Honestly, no-one should feel ashamed at needing a little help; if
there was a system in place to help the Single Income No Kids like me,
I'd take it as with the credit crunch and all, I'm struggling a bit at
the moment. However, there is no way that I'd ever steal someone's
vouchers; that to me is like taking food out of the mouths of
someone's children.

I am all for this letter making it to number one!!

Lately, I've been a bit pessimistic about were humanity is headed,
especially where consumer/employee interaction is concerned. But here
is the perfect example of an employee who cared, a customer who was
apreciative, and hopefully that will continue circling 'round and
'round.

Thanks so much for sharing this letter!!

If someone loses a job or becomes widowed that's different. If
someone chooses to have children with a substance abuser or the
chronically unemployed then they are idiots.

that some people work the system. WIC, though, is probably one of the
hardest systems to "work". Basically it's free groceries and you can
only get what's on your list. They are uber strict in terms of what
brands, types, and sizes you can get.
It's specifically geared to pregnant/nursing mothers and kids 5 and
under. You get milk, eggs, cheese, peanut butter, cereal, juice,
thinks like that. Under every heading, there's a very strict list of
what brands and sizes you can get.
You can get formula, too, but I never used that. I have heard,
though, of people breaking into cars just to steal the formula checks.
Risking jail time for a voucher that's worth maybe $25-$30. What an
example to set for the kids you're supposedly doing it for!

I agree 110% katseyes! I figure folks have a right to make as big a
mess out of their own lives as they choose.

However, when they start bringing children into that mess, it really
gets my back up.

That said, I dont think we should deny WIC to those kids. Not their
fault, and we need them to grow up healthy so they can escape from the
mess their parent(s) put them in.

Most people are honest. I've left my coupon holder in my shopping
cart at the supermarket at least a dozen times. There's no money in
it, but there are coupons and rainchecks. Every single time I go back
to retrieve it, it's waiting for me at the courtesy desk. Someone
always turns it in.

I'm so glad you got the voucher back, and thanks for sharing your
story!

I got a rubber stamped reply today thanking me for my positive
feedback.
I'm going to take Bill R.'s suggestion below and send this via mail to
the store manager (whose name is conveniently printed on the top of my
receipt). the way this reply left me feeling was kind of like
"thanks...NEXT!"

How kind of you to take the time to thank this person for their
honesty.

One suggestion: In Ohio, WIC benefits can be put on a sort of "debit"
card, which allows the WIC consumer to use it at all participating
stores.

if your state offers this, you might want to partake. A card is swiped
thru the WIC machine and a PIN is needed. So, if someone HAD stolen
you card, they could not use it to obtain your child's benefits.

Nice job relating your story.

I am not sure if WalMart accepts communications from third parties so
I suggest you send a copy to the store to the attenton of the Store
Manager.

Thanks for sharing.
