Violent Food Poisoning from The Inn at Peak's Island

Posted Tue October 7, 2008 12:00 pm, by Robert P. written to The Inn at Peak's Island, Maine

We were scouting the Inn to consider staying there soon, and had lunch on their veranda. One item immediately attacked my wife (who never gets ill from food) with violent spasms and nausea right after we walked away. We were down at the ferry landing and I called the Inn from there, spoke to the restaurant manager, who assured me they would withdraw the item from their lunch menu, and credit our credit card.

He never did it.

Repeated calls and phone messages to the Inn's general manager were never returned.

I called the Inn and spoke to a fellow managing the dining room yesterday (about 1.5 month after the event) and he assured me that their accounting department would refund the money today, and confirm with a phone call.

They never did.

We have disputed the charge, but more importantly, have serious doubts about the cleanliness and overall operation of the Inn. In other words, no one we know will be staying there soon, and heaven help you if you have any sort of problem!

Hire a general manager who does a better job overall, and returns phone calls!

Here we go again - another case of "instant" food poisoning. Unless we
are talking actual poison from a foreign agent IN the food, like rat
poison, regular run-of-the-mill food poisoning caused by bacteria does
NOT cause an immediate reaction. It can and does take hours or even
days.

These accusations of food poisoning hardly ever mention anything about
the ill person seeing a doctor.
I would think that 'violent spasms' would merit a visit to a
physician.
Overstating the matter perhaps?

Heaven help you? If you actually think that the cleanliness of this
place is a health risk and a potential danger, why aren't you calling
someone and reporting it?

Unless your wife was seen at the ER and tests done, there is not way
to conclusively tie her illness to any food at the restaurant in
question.

That was generous of the manager to offer to refund the amount and
regretful of him not to follow through.
