Regions doesn't honor their debts or employees

Write a Letter to this Company
Being a career deputy sheriff I knew I would never have some of the nice things many of my friends who chose different professions are able to enjoy. I do my job because it's what I have always wanted to do. Most deputies across this country "moonlight" or work off duty jobs to supplement their income on their off time as I do. With Christmas approaching myself and a handful of co-workers took shifts working a security detail at Regions bank on Fairfield Drive in Pensacola Florida. Beginning in October 2008, thru about the second week of December. All of us did so knowing Christmas was approaching, spending our off duty hours there with thoughts of providing a little Christmas to our family as well as keeping up with bills. Early on we had concerns we were not receiving weekly or bi-weekly payment as is expected. Multiple questions were made to the bank manager and the corporate security director Alan as to when we were going to be paid. Alan was told more than once these deputies are working extra in hopes of having Christmas money for their families. Weekly and sometimes daily excuses were made. As Christmas approached Alan assured one of my fellow deputies we would all be paid before Christmas. Well the holiday came and went with no payment. Frustrated beyond belief we were being so direspected by what we thought a reputable financial institution we went to our chain of command at our employer who regulates the off duty work. We were told that the issue was resolved and Alan said the checks were cut and in their interoffice mail...we would have them by Wednesday 12/31, and he himself would go to the bank on new years day if they came in late to see we got our money. Wednesday came and no checks...surprise. I believe that Friday Alan was called again , and this time Alan's excuse was one deputies address was wrong on his 10-99 form so they were cutting no checks. (so much for them having been cut last week and in the mail huh Alan) Days went by and well into the first week of Jan. we complained again and were told the Regions Office in Birmingham wasn't cutting checks because a deputy used the sheriffs office address on his 10-99, and they claim he cannot do that. Wow what another great excuse in the third month of no pay. By the way Regions...a law enforcement officers personal information ...address is protected by lay. The sheriff's office address is just fine for the IRS. Today is Jan. 8th and we are still waiting for our pay.
In 20 years of working extra duty I have never been treated with such disregard by the smallest extra duty employer. I do not have extravagant things. I have a modest home and live a bit better than pay check to pay check. Your non payment cost me a less than thrilling family Christmas. Even though I did not act in a foolish manner with my budget I needed that money to get by. My mortgage payment was late for the first time in years, two to three credit card payments late...In all I think I lost over 200 dollars to fees all because youe owe me 608 dollars you promised to have paid by a certain time and didn't. If I banked at your bank and did not pay my obligation you would be charging me fees left and right. I think you owe each and everyone of us an apology, and I think its reasonable that you should pay every late and over limit fee any of us had. I'm so disappointed and frustrated. Had you not promised payment by a date and time after we asked for our checks over a month maybe I wold have been able to spread my money better, but I tool your word being a bank you were able to cut a check.

They're withholding pay for over 3 months?
It sounds like the IRS needs to audit THEM if they're going to pull that kind of stuff on you!
You're already serving the people by being an officer, you don't need to provide this other company with what appears to be slave labor.
I hope they pay you fast. And get their stuff straight!

I know this area, as I live nearby (off Fairfield, actually.)
I would fire this letter off to the Pensacola News Journal. One spot in the paper, and I'm sure that Regions would pay you immediately.
One thing I've noticed about this area after 12 years, they don't like people disrespecting deputies or the military.
And you would think a bank would want to keep the police happy!

I don't know much about contractual work when it comes to off duty officers, but I can't believe they got away with this for THREE MONTHS!
From a legal standpoint where Human Resources is concerned, they cannot wait this long to pay you. I would see if you have an Equal Employment claim as well - there have to be some rules around your type of situation somewhere.
Sadly, now I'll bet it's clear to you and your fellow officers why they didn't have their own security people working there in the first place!
I hope the employees and the customers were at least pleasant to you and it was a decent working environment.

I'm sorry this spoiled your holidays. It sounds like you were taken advantage of by the way the security services were contracted. The bank should be embarrassed by the way they treated you, and the excuses sound like bunk. Why not cut everyone's check except the guy who had an issue?
My unsolicited advice is to keep the faith when it comes to credit cards and your mortgage. Hopefully, the national credit and economic situation will soon turn around, and you will be able to open more credit cards and reap the cash rewards they offer. Credit cards have changed my life in ways I never imagined possible. I was able to buy all my Christmas presents this year with cash rebates from my cards.
Hopefully you can ditch that second job soon, and sit at home on the couch while watching baseball's spring training and thinking about all the cash the bank has lent you.
Good luck!

The bank certainly did you wrong, no question.
I applaud you working a second job to supplement your income. You may want to work it for a while to get your debt down. You need to cut the credit cards off at the ankles, and be rid of them and never go back. Think how much money you would have if you didnt have to pay your credit cards every month. Then you could pay extra on the house!!!!
I have never had a house payment, my parents taught me from a young age to not go into debt. I have never borrowed money. My wife and I purchased a foreclosed home years ago for 40k which we paid for with cash and saving saving saving. We did repairs and upgrades along the way with cash, and now have a beautiful house that is paid for. I skimp more than most people when it comes to spending, even when we have money to buy new things, I still buy used, like washer/dryers/refrigerators because the quality is not there like it use to be.
With no mortgage or credit cards, or car debt, you are free from banks, credit unions, and credit card companies!
Normal people are broke, so why be normal!!!!
I employ off duty officers at my facility, I manage a grocery store. They are paid weekly, and treated very well. I have two uniformed ones in my store with one undercover.
Thank you for your committment to serve
Good Day

I'll tell you DeWayne, the bank acted abominably. It'll be interesting next time the need to find some security folks and everyone says "no" or "cash up front." Wonder what they'll do.
I hope they do the right thing and pony up the cash soon. I know folks who do contract work, and it's amazing how many businesses think they can just pay folks when they get around to it as if the person performing the service doesn't need the income.
I'll be surprised if they give you any of the fees your asking for. The reason is that you are a contractor, and the payment falls under contract law rather than labor law. They are probably responsible for some interest, but I'm not sure even a legal action would get you fees for bills you didn't pay. It's the price of being a contractor as opposed to a regular employee. In short, the legal system doesn't look to kindly upon spending money you don't actually have.
Thanks for what you do to keep our communities safe. You have a hard job and put your life on the line for us. I appreciate that.
Let us know if the bank gets back to you.

Evidently Planet Feedbacks information is outdated. The CEO is C. Dowd Ritter, who is headquartered in Birmingham, Al. The fax number here is no good and customer service wouldn't give me Mr. Ritter's Fax....go figure
