I'm more disturbed by the cannibalistic tones of some food/candy commercials, such as m&ms had a few years ago. Ick.

I don't usually comment on letters unless I feel very compelled to. With so much going on in the world, and so many truly valid complaints on this site, I think you're reading far too much into this.
I have seen the series of commercials that are like the one you describe, and while they are full of innuendo, I would hardly call them "porn". If you think these look like "porn", than you can't have viewed actual adult films. LoL.
But I digress. The M&M's being advertised in these spots are for candy flavors that are more adult in nature than traditional M&M's; they are flavors that the average child would not normally gravitate to and enjoy. Therefore, the company is trying to differentiate that by making the advertising more adult in nature, as well. Relax, and take them on face value. Candy can't have sex.

Oh come on it's all in fun. Back in the 70's someone made up a rumor and it got passed around for fun. It was supersticious to eat green m&m's for it but it was all in fun. Now they banked on it and it just brings back good memories. And profit of course haha

What exactly are you worried that kids will "emulate"? It's a piece of candy... my kid would rather play with his Wii than imitate an M&M.

No support from me either. All candy, video games, and cartoon are not meant for children and Hershey likely wants to try something a little different to draw in some more customers.
So what is there that is sexual in nature that kids will emulate? Laying in a patch of grass? Putting their hands into a fountain? Eating candy? Wearing high heels? People do these things in public every day, and just because a piece of candy does them for a few seconds doesn't make said things sexual.
You could always just not let your kids watch television; that will keep them safe from any evil candy porno.

Your kids will learn what YOU teach them. If you tell them that this behaviour is okay then that is what they will believe.
Watch the ad with your kids. Explain to them that the behavviour is only appropriate if you are a big green M&M. And since your children aren't then it is not acceptable.
I personally like the ad. It's about time M&M's appeal to the adults that consume the candy, not just the kids.

I would be more worries about kids emulating the Castrol synthetic oil ad "Thinking with your dipstick." That is the one with the Irish guy going around hitting people with a dipstick and telling them they aren't thinking with their dipstick. I wouldn't want to be wacked by a kid and a dipstick. Or how about the ad for Pam cooking spray where the woman is trying to pry the food off of the pan and it goes flying through the kitchen window and through the window of a parked car. I wouldn't want kids throwing food at my cars or windows.

The female M&M closes the mouth of the male M&M with her hand. The only skin showing is arms and legs.
I saw no other interaction or innuendo. Perhaps you are suggesing a masturbation theme while the female M&M rolls around on the floor alone?

I think that if a child wants to emulate a piece of candy, they have bigger problems that a "scandalous" ad.

Actually the candy that is being advertised in these "scadalous" ads is not the regular old M&Ms. They are advertising the M&Ms Premium line. These are more complex flavors and they are a good bit more expensive as well. They are advertising these toward ADULTS. There are things out there that are not just for kids, live with it.

Try to catch the M&M commercial where the yellow one is running on the grocery belt trying not to get rung up and then at the end there he is sitting in a bag and another one has a piece of paper and says.."Hey we are on the guest list!" and the yellow one says.."no, thats the menu!"
I may not have the wording exactly right but I found it quite amusing!

I somewhat agree with you, maybe not to same intensity that you feel. Tv commericals have become really trashy, but unfortanately that is a sign of the times.
People do not care about that now, because they raise their children to do what feels good. This slow progression has been happening for many many years. People become so use to it, they dont even see it, or recognize it.
Im glad you took the time and effort to voice your opinion, too many just complain and do nothing.
Good Day

that you are insisting they pull this commercial! I personally find it hilariously funny!
Does that mean that since I don't agree with you, that I get to insist you change your ways or I can ban you from public forever because you offend me?
Of course not, so don't be ridiculous!

I'm drawing the line at cocoa beans. They better not even think of sullying the reputation of the cocoa bean.
Good clean cocoa beans - that's where it's at.

I have to agree with the others...its a commercial and that's it.
You can take all the green m&m's out of the packs and then your children will not related these particular ones with that commercial. (kidding of course).
And unless the child(ren) have actually asked you what the green m&m is doing I doubt they pay much attention to it.

This may not change your feelings about the ad, but M&M's are no longer marketed at children. This may be,
in part, why they've taken on intentionally "adult" ads. It seems that those M&M characters were criticized as being appealing to kids, which suggested that they were trying to get kids to eat candy (duh!) and this was creating childhood obesity issues.
By recasting these characters as being decidedly adult in nature, they can better say that they are not going after kids.
Whether this is really working or if it's a cleaver ploy to get kids to like candy and sex... After all, this is tobacco companies do.
