I couldn't agree more! There are acres of Missy size clothes--and GREAT stuff. Cute dresses, skirts, tops, all kinds of gorgeous outfits. Then, you get to the plus size section. A couple stretch knits squeezed between the misses and maternity. Heck, even the maternity wear (which also doesn't come in plus) is more fashionable then their excuse for plus size clothes. I might be a larger woman, but I don't dress in tents, t-shirts and sweats all day. I mean, come on!!!!

I am a plus size woman also and shopping SUCKS!! I mean I used to love Target when I was skinny and now I don't even waste my time going shopping for clothes there!! Because I feel like there are no clothes for me only if you are a size 0 - 7!!! And that sucks for people like us!! I mean we want to look nice too!!! And we already hate shopping because we are big and not all but most of us have low self esteem and just want to get in and find clothes that actually FIT!!! It sucks there are no nice big girl stores where I live and shopping is sooo depressing!! I mean we are girls we love to shop!! But Target really dont have a good selection for people that have meat on the bones it is a skinny chics heaven though!! They better do something quick or they are going to loose alot of customers!!! I feel like this is discrimination against us hefty chics!!!! That is not right!! They need to get a better selection and get bigger sizes and quick!!

Absolutely, take your business elsewhere. I too have been disappointed in Target and I drive across a state line to get there. Not any more. I also won't be buying shoes, makeup or electronics there either.
I just don't go. Period.
I did shop at Catherine's today, my first visit and was plesantly surprised at the selections and prices. I recommend Catherine's.

Target's Cherokee line used to be great! It was the only clothing that I could literally walk to, grab my size, and go without having to try on everything.
Sad.

I am a plus size woman. I normally wear 18-20's. The thing that bothers me the most is that chain stores usually have adorable outfits hanging in their windows, but when you walk inside, there is this huge area for "petite", or "teen" clothes. After searching for ten minutes, you finally stumble upon a plus size rack of ugly flower patterend 1980's style grandma clothes. I refuse to shop at target and other chain stores. I have found a new place that is cheap enough for me to buy a new outfit every week, and I am currently working part time. DOTS Boutiques are amazing. They have the same ADORABLE outfits for plus size and petite women. Their styles are untouchable, and they offer sizes 0-24. They carry undergarments, jeans, tee's, shoes, handbags, formal wear and work wear, as well as hundreds of different accessories that match every color and every style. They are very affordable, I think the most expensive thing I have even seen in their stores are some of the jeans that average $18.00-$20.00. I highly recommend that you try this store. www.dots.com If you don't like dots, or the sizes are not right for you, try Romans.com. Their sizes go up to like 44, and are true to fit.

Oh I hear ya on this one. Any Target I go to, the clothing jumps from teeny tiny junior clothes to maternity and then a pitiful rack of "plus size" clothes. This tiny rack is usually full of leftover maternity and junior clothes anyway. I could have sworn there used to be a decent sized area of "women's" clothes and they called it, but now it's overrun with the Junior section. Even Maternity seems to be getting the short end of the stick sometimes.

You took the words right out of my mouth,Pamela.I adore Target for everything except clothes...their plus size department is a joke. They never have anything I would want to wear in my size, the department is so tiny and why do they always have plus sizes next to maternity wear?
The thing I don't get is that my sister...who is very tiny.....gets the cutest clothes at Target and me,just because I am a plus size, can't find anything beyond underwear and pajamas at Target!
Please keep us posted if Target replies to you Pamela:)

DOTS Fashion is my most favorite place to shop right now. They have some really cute, fashionable clothes and they get new shipments (at least here) every Monday and Wednesday. And it doesnt cost anymore than Walmart clothes.

I couldn't agree more. I hate going to my local Target and seeing bikini's that would fit my 6 year old in the women's section. And our store's plus selection has a lot to be desired as well. I hope they listen! The average size is NOT size 4, Target!

I read some of the other comments and I hate regurgitating the same thing over and over again but I do love the Fashion Bug! Not to mention if you can bear Wal-Mart they do have cute clothes. Before I got knocked up I was wearing some cool tops I got from there and when a friend asked what brand it was we found out that it was a maternity top!! So if it wont weird you out too much maybe check their maternity section? If you're looking for durability (some other posters had qualms with quality) check out thrift stores, the clothes have already gone through a couple of cycles of washings and you can always seem to find bigger sized clothing (at least you can in my neck of the woods - I guess it could vary place to place) and if you hit one up closer to a city then you totally find really fashionable stuff.

I stopped shopping at Target for clothing years ago. Their clothing just never held up no matter if I washed it on delicate or not.
Even K-Mart ihas better made clothes than the brand Target carries.
Try shopping Kohl's or Macy's sales...these places have larger sizes and the prices are great when they go on sale.
Also Burlington Clothing Stores have a great variety for the plus sized woman.

i agree with you. our target is the same way. and i don't understand it because i've heard that plus size women outnumber non plus size these days. i'd think that if they had any business savvy, they'd know we plus size ladies have money and want to look fashionable. there are some great online plus size places, Torrid is a good one.

Target sucks for clothing and everything else in my opinion. Go to ROSS, they have great plus clothing, and you can buy for the whole family. They get trucks weekly and have cheap clearence daily...I love Ross

but since "healthy" food costs more than food that tends to pack on pounds, and since people who are working every shift they can find are more likely to need to rely on fast food or frozen meals than to cook from scratch (which lets you substitute olive oil for butter, etc.), I'd think this would be exactly the moment for stores like Target to start selling more inexpensive, fashionable plus-sized clothes again.
I recently heard a university professor complain that motivated students are showing up for class less prepared now than they did a year ago, because they're picking up more shifts at low-paying jobs because their parents have less money to give them, and that means they have less time to read. I would not be at all surprised to hear that on average Americans -- and especially Americans without large incomes -- weigh more a year from now than we do today.
I hope they listen to you. But if they don't, I hope other retailers decide to give you more options.

a frequent complaint that Target has had over the years.
I honestly don't think it's that they don't want your business, but they have to be well-rounded. If they put more plus-sized outfits on the floor, that's less room for other groups and then those people will be here complaining that Target doesn't care about them either. It would be great for you, but bad for them.
Some of the other ladies here have offered some great suggestions on places to find plus sized clothing. Old Navy has also added a "plus" section to their website that has some really cute outfits at decent prices.
It sucks when you don't fit the "cookie cutter" but that just means you need to get creative.

I've noticed this too, especially the underwear that someone already mentioned, and pjs too. Target used to be a great place to shop for plus size clothes, now no longer. What little they have is terrible quality too. I know Wal Mart carries Just My Size, which is great for bras, panties, and basics, if you can stand shopping at Wal-Mart. I do all of my clothing shopping at Lane Bryant, Macy's and once in awhile Fashion Bug. Dress Barn (hate the name too!) has some cute things as well, and if you have a Younkers/Herberger's/Carson's/Boston's, they do too. But in my opinion Lane Bryant is the best. You can get everything there, even shoes in a few stores.

Many of the stores here have amuch nicer selection of plus size. I wear a size 8 or 1o and most of the shirts I find inmy size have Hannah Montana or the Jonas Bros. on them.

Stores simply carry the sizes due to space that provide the most profit per square foot - thus giving them them the most bang for dollar.
The store I use to work for had the same issues on Plus and Petite sizes.
I am 6 5" and find the same problem....no talls...all the pants to short...all the sleeves not long enough.
You just have to find the stores that cater to you, or find catalogs, and not expect to find clothes at some stores even though you buy buy plenty of other items you can buy and use.
Stores simply can't provide every combination of every size or even limited racks of clothes for some peoples need. It doesn't pay the bills for the stores. If you have a rack of clothes that sells out in a weekend...or one rack that takes weeks to move some of it ...with the majority going clearance which would you carry?

Well Actually Fashion Bug does have a lot of nice plus size fashions, but on the other end of the spectrum, I would have to complain that they are downsizing their regular sizes. They do not even carry my pants size, I was shocked that they don't carry anything under size 4. So it can go both ways, like a previous post said I guess not every store can cater to every need. I don't like Target clothes at all they are flimsy and cheap.

That is surprising! Even the "right fit" pants don't fit? I think they go down to a 23 inch waist, not sure what that would be in regular sizes. That sucks! I hope you can at least get some cute tops there that fit you well! The sales are just so great.
Believe it or not, I've found K-mart clothes to be of pretty good quality!

I don't know exactly where you live, but there is a store, in our area called The Avenue. You can also go to there website avenue.com.
I understand how frustrating it is to find clothing in plus size, not to mention the variety and selection available.
Fortunately for me, I have taken my frustration and worked hard to shed pounds and be able to fit in clothing other then plus size. For me, it was a medical condition causing me to gain weight.
Yes, I do hear your frustration and it always seems to be "granny" style clothing only available in plus size.. That is why I suggest taking a look at what the Avenue has to offer.

This is a great letter and you are absolutely correct. I quit even TRYING to shop at Target for clothes.
Its pathetic that they cover up the FEW racks of plus sized clothes they carry with the maternity and clearance racks. Its almost like they are embarassed to even have a plus size department.
They are REALLY missing the boat on this but frankly, I dont think they care. Its been getting worse for years and they havent done a thing.

Target is NOT on top of my list to shop for clothing if I want nice feminine clothing... There is some decent stuff as far as plus size goes....stressing the word SOME.
My problem is my local Target likes to mix the Liz Lange Maternity stuff with the plus size clothes, and when I see something that looks like a big size...it ends up being a maternity top or dress in a small size.
I know some people on here may say "just lose weight" or whatever, but even that takes awhile. Even if you are losing weight like I am (26 pounds in 12 weeks so far on weight watchers) you most likely will not be a size 10 in a month...I love Target, but it's really inconvenient if I decide I need a new blouse or two while I'm doing my weekly shopping, and have to hike out to walmart.

and I know less about women's clothing than most people on the planet. But your suggestion sounds good. I am thin and tall, and you size situation sounds closer to mainstream than mine.
I have a suggestion for you. When you do find the right clothing, I'd suggest traveling by personal auto, train, ship or bus. The environment for plus sizers is getting hostile on planes.

As a petite woman, I have the same complaint--short lengths are difficult to find, and even then there is a petite section, some designers get it all wrong (Ralph Lauren and Liz Claiborne are especially bad--their "petite" pants are many inches past my feet, and I'm 5'2"-5'3"!). However, there surely are more plus-size women than petite women. You'd think Target would take the opportunity to cash in on this segment of the market.
Lane Bryant is an option, but that's a relatively pricey store compared to Target.
Have you tried Kohl's? My neighbor is probably a size 20, 22, and she shops there all the time, and she gets SUPERCUTE stuff very cheap!
