account showing I don't recall or know---help please

Recently, I was doing a check on my credit report and noticed a listing for AT&T Mobility (formerly Cingular) and also a related collection listing.

I do not recall this account and am disappointed it is showing. I don't recall receiving any correspondence related to this at all.

I have been and still am a good customer of theirs.

While it is not that big of a deal, I would like to solve this if possible.

This is an old account apparently according to the listing. It would be out of the SOL (statue of limitations) for collections. The listing shows something like $725.

If they are willing to negotiate say like 25-30% cash I would pay it right now if they are willing to delete both their listing and the collection listing by sending me a letter to respond to.

I would be willing to accept one phone call for this purpose to discuss and to offer details showing.

Got a call from AT&T today. I was talking to Mr.Pat McManis (sorry if
spelling is wrong Pat).
I must say he was a delight to talk to. A very professional and
outgoing person. He represents AT&T very well.
He informed me of details about the account and who to contact about
it.
He was not condescending to me or about the account mentioned.
Understood my explaination and details.
It truely was a pleasure to talk to him, which is not usually the case
in situations such as this. I wish all folks handled their business
and customers this way.

Did you call them? by Donno Tue May 5, 2009 @ 2:31 PM

Hello, new here, don't know if folks usually respond to each other,
but i will.
I don't call them because I don't care to talk to a regular customer
service representative. The reasoning is this: if I do owe for this
(i did a few years back get a phone for my step-daughter) then I want
someone who is able to "get it done".

$725 is not a big deal? To WHOM?

I would advise against making ANY payment if you don't think this
account is yours. You can bet that if you do pay them cash, they then
have no incentive to fix the reporting to the credit bureaus.

I suggest you do some research to find out the lending laws in your
state. What if this really is in error AND you could get it removed
from your credit report? Best of both worlds!
