PFB Latest Headlines (5-05-09): Target Relaxes Return Policy (sort of)

Posted Tue May 5, 2009 12:00 pm, by

In her blog, PFB member RedheadwGlasses notes that Target has relaxed their return policy for customers who don't have a receipt. Here's the source story.

We applaud Target for implementing a more consumer friendly policy. As always, there is a balance between the meeting store's needs and meeting the customer's needs however it's great when a company decides to err on the side of the consumer. Clearly, consumer feedback about the old policy played a huge part in this decision.

I really dont think this is going to do anything. People who retuen
things, will always believe they are right. It doesnt matter what
amount they are allowed to return.

Maybe I should start practicing my speech now. This $70 total is going
to be confusing for everyone involved.

Well, whatever. People are still going to complain when they exceed
that, so I don't know how much help this will be. I guess we'll see.

People will still complain about it and expect the rules to be bent
for them no matter what they do.

I do commend Target for relaxing the policy a bit. This should
hopefully make it a lot easier for those receiving duplicate items on
a gift registry to return them without incident. I am also grateful
to them for not easing up entirely. I always dread going in to
Walmart and rarely ever do any more. The employees rarely look happy
to be there and do not go out of their way to help you. The very
opposite can be said for Target, and I firmly believe that this is at
least in part due to their policies.

One thing that can be said after reading all of the Target complaint
letters on here is that at least they seem to be pretty consistent.
Many might find their rules stiff, I find them refreshing. I simply
keep my receipt when I purchase something from there, knowing there
will be no way for me to return my items later without it. Those that
feel they are entitled to special treatment are quickly weeded out
when they find they will get no special treatment at Target when it
comes to returns.

This is good news...and all it took was some re-progrmming on their
part to be able to look up purchases (exception cash).

I think this is a breakthrough and although I did not have any issue
with keeping my receipt for the 90 days it will be a pleasure to
(hopefully) see less and less complaint letters in here regarding
Target's return policy.
