No Stamps at USPS

Write a Letter to this Company
I went to visit the historic and very spacious Main Post Office located 1720 Market St, St Louis, MO 63103, to my surprise I was unable to locate stamps, a stamp machine or any one to sell me a stamp. I walked back to the guard desk at the entry to ask for direction to the stamps only to be informed that the USPS no longer provided for postage after a certain time of day and was directed to a 7-11 store a couple located 201 NORTH 17TH ST SAINT LOUIS, 63103-2353 a blocks away however more than just myself has choice this option because tha manager said we have a machine how ever it constantly empty because go the post no at night. I left there in what is approaching into a quest for a stamp to mail a letter I drove past then returned to the Marriott Hotel located One St. Louis Union Station St. Louis, Missouri 63103 neighboring the post and asked the very nice lady at the front desk if just maybe she would have a stamp, and she did (again thank you Marriott) being informational the kind woman informed me that the Post office was just up the street, then I shared my adventure w/her, to her surprise the lobby is open to mail letters; however the USPS do not provide postage at this time. Being concerned I called To express my concern, I found out just who to speak with to get at least a stand alone (like 7-11) to provide customer service. I spoke w/USPS customer service coordinator. She informed me that the previous machines got old and the parts cost more that a replacement machine, and not in current budget please contact your congressman to express your feelings for funding. So Here I am address this concern to my U.S. Congressman Lacy Clay, D-Mo. The request is simple The above mention USPS location has a soda machine, snack/chip machine, am I asking for to much for a stamp machine for a 24 hour letter drop location to have a stamp machine. Please send a reply for me expect or… not to expect stamps at the St Louis Main Post Office Hub Distribution Location 24 hr a day.

Our local p.o. here in Kentucky also removed the stamp machine. I believe it was a couple of years ago. Anyway, I think the real reason they got rid of them was because it was probably just too much trouble to upgrade the money handling equipment inside the machines when the p.o. started with the $.42 stamps. Sure wouldn't want them to go out of their way to make things convenient for their customers, would we?

i might be wrong, but it sounded like perhaps the USPS lobby was open so people could access their boxes... but that regular post office services were closing up for the day?

Why would they phase these machines out? Theft? Lack of interest?

How on Earth could a post office not have STAMPS? That's just craziness!
Every location around here has these self-serve vending machines now! Is this some sort of special package pick up hub or something? Even then, you'd think they could still offer stamps without it being full-service.
Worst case scenario, have you ever thought about using Stamps.com to print your own?

Most people just get them at the grocery store when they are checking out.
Good Day

Stamps by mail! They drop off your order with the rest of your mail, within two business days. No standing in line. No scrounging around. Free delivery.

Yes, it was widely advertised about two years ago now that the USPS was phasing out stamp machines in the lobby of the post office for purchase after hours.
Imagine paying even more for postage than we do now, because people want longer window hours and the convenience of buying stamps the entire time the lobby is open. It is a tradeoff. Personally, I would rather buy a book in advance, but I don't mail that many things anymore.
I believe the next thing the post office is considering is eliminating a day of delivery.

I didn't know they still had 247 stamp machines. back when i was in VA there was a 247 package mailer, which was nice. It even took credit cards. However that's the only one i've ever seen.
Not sure what it costs to maintain it though. That might be why the local one where I am now doesn't have one.
Though, according to the USPS official website, you can print your own postage and even order stamps online.
