Put "Under God" on your Cans, Pepsi

I was very disappointed that the new Pepsi cans have changed our pledge of alliegence by removing "under God.". This has been around for many years. So, what gives them the right to revise it? They are concerned about offending people, but what about the people that are offended by having those precious words removed.

I am offended by having it changed. Put "under God" back in our pledge. If it ain't broke (and it isn't) don't fix it.

Asmany have pointed out, this is a hoax that has been circulating for
some time.

However, if you were advocating for companies to stay true to our
country by printing the original, unchanged Pledge, then the words
"under God" would not be in it. They were added in the 1950s.

whether Pepsi (or Dr. Pepper, or whoever) did change the wording on
their cans, it cannot and will not ever change the actual pledge of
allegiance for this country.

And after all, isn't that all that really matters?

As someone else pointed out these emails, for the most part, are older
ones and some even started when email became more prevelant about
12-15yrs ago. But somewhere along the line someone will update it to
make it seem that it is new.

You can always go to www.snopes.com to confirm or deny any type emails
such as the Pepsi one. Most times they are on the ball and will let
you know if an email is true or false (and even if its partially
true/false).

Just an FYI if you get one that has a man chopping onions on a board
and he is dressed in a chefs hat ignore it...its not really Applebee's
CEO wanting to send everyone who forwards this email to 20 or more
people a gift certificate to Applebee's. This is one of many floating
around out there i.e.; Bill Gates wanting to forward a free laptop to
the first 10,000 persons who sign up to test MSN's Beta System...which
has been out for over a yr now...the list goes on and on.
People are pretty smart in how they write these type of emails
up...and by the time it does get back to that peson, which in all
reality it just might, they have a good laugh at how many email
addresses this produced.

You're right, the Pledge of Allegiance has been around for many years.
You know what else has been around for many years? The email forward
you're getting your information from. I remember responding to this
same subject on PlanetFeedback letters back in 2003.

The can you're referring to was released by Dr. Pepper, not Pepsi. It
was only in circulation from late 2001 to early 2002, and only
available in twelve states. The words "under God" were indeed removed
from the Pledge of Allegiance printed on the can, but so were every
other word from the Pledge save "One Nation ... Indivisible."

So while I am a very big fan of major corporations responding to the
requests of their customers, I'm not certain I can think of any
feasible means for the Pepsi Company to add the words "Under God" back
into the Pledge on a pop can that's been out of circulation for over
six years and was released by an entirely different soda company. If
anyone has any suggestions on the matter, I'd be interested in hearing
them.

Please, nothing involving time machines.

i'm wondering if the OP knew about it.

had "One nation indivisible" on the cans.

I'm just as offended that "under God" was added to the pledge of
allegiance in the 1950s.

Kudos to Pepsi for not caving to pressure from the fundies!

I'm thinking something with a religious theme, like Jesus on the
crucifix, would be satisfying and refreshing. Very similar to the
elixir contained within.

This is false.

They didn't "change" the pledge of allegiance.

"Under God" wasn't added to the pledge until the 1950s, almost a full
200 years after this country was founded. The same goes with "In God
We Trust" on the currency.

My personal feeling is that having both of these phrases is
unconstitutional as it is the government "favoring" one religion over
another, when the two should remain seperate.

P.S. How would removing that phrase "offend" you?

Kathy T.,

I had to check a can at the local 7/11 before I responded. Same old
can there. Do you have a can as you describe?
I checked Snopes.com... http://tinyurl.com/naly7k
Could it be what you heard is part of the rumor found by snopes.com?
Stop back when you hear back?
