Please give customers the choice to transfer, if delays are known

I was a passenger on Amtrak Train 64 yesterday from Rochester, New York to Penn Station. The train had a number of delays, which I know cannot always be avoided and in general, service on this line is pretty good. Customer service yesterday was tops, letting us know as much as they could about the delays and when we could be expected to be moving again.

My suggestion relates to the final delay, due to switching problems at Spuyten Duyvil. The conductor did not announce until after we left the Yonkers station stop, the second to last stop, that there were going to be additional delays and that train 68 was also delayed in front of us. If they had notified us prior to or at the Yonkers stop, those of us who know the area could have transferred to Metro-North at Yonkers and avoided additional delays. Instead, they waited until after the doors were closed at Yonkers. Because they made the announcement almost immediately as the doors closed, there's no reason to believe they didn't have the info before the station stop.

It would be great if this could be passed on to the appropriate people in the event this happens again as I believe giving customers the choice would make things easier and there are a number of intersections with Metro-North where consumers could make this choice.

Thanks

Now I think we've all grown too dependent on instant responses in the
days of e-mail, but 4-6 weeks is nuts!

Could it be that Amtrak is Amtrak and Metro North is MTA?
