Strawberries at IHOP

Hello, my name is Amanda and I recently dined at IHOP in Washington D.C. I'm from Canada and was on vacation, and this was the first time I've ever been to IHOP because there is only one in my province, nowhere near where I live. Anyway, the food I ordered was awesome, the service was excellent, and I really enjoyed myself.
I do have one suggestion, however. I ordered french toast with bananas and strawberries, and although it was delicious, I really thought it would have been nicer if the strawberries had been fresh. They were the preserved, syrupy kind of berries that you find in a jar of jam. I found them far too sweet, and they didn't taste like strawberries at all, so I pushed them aside. I know that it would probably be more expensive to have fresh berries, and they would not last as long as preserved berries, but I think your customers would enjoy them more. Just something to think about.
Anyway, I hope that more IHOPs are built in Ontario! The only one here seems to be the one in Niagara Falls, which is a couple of hours away from here. Thanks for the delicious meal!

I agree! I wish they would give customers the option of fresh
strawberries or preserved/syrup strawberries.

Amanda,

That sounds like a good idea, but, as Red suggested below,
strawberries don't have a long harvesting season around here (I live
in Baltimore, about 40 miles northeast of DC).

An additional problem is that fresh strawberries tend to be on the
tart/sour side sometimes, so it would require them to be sweetened
anyway. If not, they probably wouldn't taste too good with French
Toast.

Lastly, as was already mentioned, imported strawberries would jack up
the price of the meal, and I don't think that's something that any
business needs to do right now, considering many of them are
practically begging for customers.

Not only would it make the meal more expensive, but fresh strawberries
wouldn't be available year round. There's also the hassle of staff to
wash and cut them.

Maybe not locally, but major purchasers can import them or get them
from different regions.
I order strawberries year round through Sysco at one of my jobs. They
get them from south America.

I work at a breakfast restaurant as a waiter in the summer. Somebody
suggested this for our products once, but the owner said it was too
expensive and wouldn't taste as good. He tried it once and people
never ordered them.

A solution would be to offer fresh fruit for those who want it.

Good suggestion! I prefer fresh also but my husband won't eat anything
but those syrupy kind. He's crazy! :-)
