I had an issue with my mail carrier some time ago and called the 1-800-ASK-USPS phone number on their website.I really wasn't expecting to get the issue resolved, but miracles do happen and within a week I had gotten a phone call from the county postmaster telling me he would look into the matter personally!I have had no problems with my mail carrier since then. You might give the 1-800 number a try.

I THINK IT IS ABOUT POWER. They have the power over your mail and can or can not deliver it to your address. I know there is a rule about dogs. They don't even have to deliver it if you have a dog beware sign. The name on your mailbox is a choice on your part. I don't have the name on my mail box and I get my mail and my parents mail everyday.

I just want to say that I have not read the comments, but here's my story about the postal system:
Shortly after I moved here, I stopped receiving my mail because the carrier claimed there was a car parked too close to the mailbox. I was not getting the mailed picked up either, which was causing big problems. I called my local postmaster to try and resolve the situation and was not only spoken to like a child but was told outright lies. I tried to explain that I had no control over who parked near my mailbox. The postmaster claimed that unless the truck had a ten-foot clearance in front and behind the box, they could not deliver the mail. He also claimed the driver was not permitted to get out of the truck, and that the truck was incapable of operating in reverse.
Now, I could understand if a car was actually blocking the mailbox, but I actually took pictures of cars parked more than ten feet away from the box on days when my mail was not delivered or picked up.
In desperation of receiving non-interrupted mail service, I started speaking to people who lived in the area a long time, and they confirmed that it had always been that way and there was nothing I could do to change anything. I was even told "You can't fight City Hall".
Well, that wasn't good enough for me. I contacted the Postmaster General in Washington D.C. and received an immediate response informing me that the matter would be looked into. Less than a week later, I noticed a car following the mail truck, and a person inside the car writing was on a clipboard. That was 27 years ago, and since then the postmaster moved to a post office in a different town, and I have received my mail every single day (weather permitting). I have seen the carrier get out of the truck and have also seen the truck operating in reverse.
The moral of the story is you CAN fight City Hall. And you can win. I suggest that you contact the Postmaster General in Washington D.C. (if there still is such a person) and explain your situation. Hopefully you will get the same results I did.
Good luck!

Gee and I ccouln't get them to STOP putting mail in my mail box that does not belong to me! I get the neighbors who moved 6 mos ago plus my siblings who have not lived at our family home for 20-35yrs.
Finally we had a new carrier and I was outside one day. He was very nice, I explained that the only mail I wanted was in my own or my sons name. He came back from his truck and brought me a form to fill out. He said to take it to our local branch of the PO and he will be reminded to bring only mail for the persons listed for that address.
It worked out fine and still is. And that was over 6yrs ago.
So maybe a trip to your local PO will help, talk to the supervisor and ask how to go about getting ALL your mail delivered and not just what this one carrier thinks you should be receiving.

Divorce is a good thing! And sometimes people do have divorce parties.
Getting rid of a cheating spouse, an abuser (physical, emotional, or substance) is sometimes the only way to get your life back.
I am not saying that all divorces are warranted. Marriage is hard. Too many people throw in the towel without trying to work out their problems.
I am not divorced. In fact I just got married. But I don't condemn anyone for getting a divorce if they are better off without their spouse.

I have the opposite problem. We have lived in our home for eleven years. We still get mail for the former owners, as well as for current and former neighbors. Most days I have to walk around the neighborhood delivering the mail myself. I've called the Postmaster and nothing has changed. I am thinking about submitting an invoice to the US Postal Service and charging them hourly in accordance with a mail delivery person's pay scale.

The following is the USPS rules on this:
http://tinyurl.com/mxhc4e
In particular, note the following:
"3.2.8 Owner's Name[:] The mailbox may bear the owner's name."
It says "may" not "must." There are requirements for address, however, so take note of these.
If you have not done so, already, give a call to your local postmaster. Describe the situation and see what s/he has to say.
