Flat Mountain Dew

For the last 5+ months I have been in off and on contact with customer service in regards to Diet Mountain Dew and Regular Mountain Dew being flat upon opening. While the gals in customer service are super nice, my underlying issue has not been resolved. Over that time they have issued me coupons for free products, but I've started telling them to keep the coupons because I don't want the free Diet Mountain Dew if it is going to be flat also!
I have tried 12 oz cans, 20 oz bottles and 24 oz bottles....All Flat! Ironically I haven't tried 2L bottles because they go flat too quickly!
I have tried storing said bottles in the fridge, in a closet, on the counter, in the laundry room and in the laundry room.....All Flat!
I have shopped for said product at CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Harold's Jay C and Kroger (to eliminate poor handling issues on the stores end)......All flat!
I don't know what else to do.
I would like for you to send an inspector to the bottler that supplies my area and open a few random bottles. Then TASTE the soda. I suspect it will be flat. If I'm wrong, then you can eliminate them as the cause.
Then I would like for you to inspect the packaging you use. Is plastic able to hold in carbonation? Does it have to be a certain thickness to do so? Maybe some sort of coating on the plastic will keep it fresher? And what about the aluminum used on cans? The stuff is so thin it will rupture if cooled to anything close to icy cold.
I'm not new to Mountain Dew. My husband and I have been loyal customers for nearly 30 years, but the bottom line is that I want a FRESH Diet Mountain Dew that burns your throat as it goes down! I'm sick and tired of having syrupy sweet, flat, boring old, old, old soda!
I never thought I'd have to say this, but I have purchased my last Mountain Dew/Pepsi product. Regretably, I have been forced to purchase Diet Big Red for my soda needs and Coke products for my husband.

This might seem silly, but...
If the only pop/soda you drink is Mt. Dew, maybe you are "getting used to" the way it tastes.
I get that sometimes. I drink something so much, for so long, that eventually it starts to taste bland. I have to change it up every now and then.
Try switching to another flavor, like Pepsi, or eliminating carbonated drinks for a while. I alternate between tea, flavored water, Cherry Pepsi, and Mt. Dew, and have not had a problem since.

Did you check expiration dates? I was buying 20-ounce bottles of Coca Cola (this was several years ago) from a certain coffee shop near work, and they often would be flat. I finally saw the expiration (or sell by) date on the bottle (not easy to see that dark grey print when it's full of pop!) and noticed that the pop was expired. Even if it was by just a month, the pop was flat.
I called Coca Cola and the problem was immediately taken care of. I hope the same happens as a result of your letter.

Sounds like a local bottler issue, as I've had plenty of Mt. Dew recently and this has not been my experience.
You'd think that if all their products, for this long, were flat, there'd be hundreds of customers complaining. That being the case, it sure sounds like the local bottler is simply ignoring the problem. Which is a whole lot worse than having made the mistake in the first place.
Even more, I'm surprised that bottlers weren't required to use cans and bottles that met certain specs. The fact that they're using too-thin cans and plastic bottles sure sounds like this is a terrible bottler.
If you're in an area that's served by Pepsi Bottling Group, take heart: PepsiCo is buying these plans, so hopefully that'll improve quality.

Burns your throat as it goes down?
Doesnt sound like something I would want to drink.
Perhaps your interpretation of flat is different than theirs.
Good Day

The OP is from Vincennes, IN, which is what...a hundred miles from New Albany?
You are probably served by the same bottling company.
Has Meijer's or any other local company made a complain about this?

OMG!! Now I know it isn't just DH & I!!!
I have had to give them the codes off of bottles every time I've called.. None have been expired, or really even close to it. While I think the gals in Customer Service are sympathetic, I believe that they think it is something I'm doing to the pop to make it flat. The last lady told me that she checked and there were no other complaints about the soda. I can say that until I noticed it with Diet Mountain Dew (still thinking CVS was doing something to cause it), my DH never said anything about it. Now he grumbles the whole time like I do...lol
This last weekend I finally used the free coupon they sent after the last complaint. I took the pop directly from the store to my refridgerator. As soon as it was cold enough to drink, I opened one....flat! So flat, in fact, that I took a drink, put the lid back on, dropped it on the floor (on purpose), opened the bottle immediately and took a drink! It not only didn't explode, it didn't even go PSCHTTT....lol
And to whomever suggested I might be lucky and get a new bottler when Pepsi buys out the independants....I've already tried that and was informed that there would be "absolutely no change in your favorite drink"....Grrr!!!
