Blue Blob defect on Wega TV

Write a Letter to this Company
Dear Customer Service,
Sony was aware of a manufacturing defect in its expensive, large screen TV's but did not inform its customers about the problem. By the time I knew about the problem, the warranty had conveniently expired and the repair cost would total $1200.00.
I would like Sony Inc to repair the TV at their expense or provide a replacement TV free of defects.
Sincerely,
Karen N.

Sony is aware of the problem. My husband purchased a Wega in 2004. In November 2007, the picture went out and we had to replace the bulb. By January of this year we were on our 2nd bulb replacement when the bottom right of the screen turned blue. Then several tiny blue dots appeared on the screen. By the end of March, the picture had gone out again. We assumed it was the bulb again. My husband got pissed at Sony and went out and bought a new TV (first he bought a Sony that ended up having a bad tuner which he exchanged for a Samsung). We sold the Wega to my brother-in-law who bought a new lamp. When the TV still didn't work, he researched online and found out that the Sony Wega does in fact have a defect which Sony corrected for FREE until December 2008! So in that aspect, I feel your pain. I also think that Sony should repair, free of charge, all Wega's still owned by the original owners. As far as Sony not notifying their customers, I don't see how they would be able to notify Wega owners. Most were purchased from places like Sears, Best Buy and the now defunct Circuit City. Its highly unlikely that retailers like those I mentioned, provide manufacturers with a list of who purchased what. Do you see my point? But I do agree, Sony is aware of the problem and should not have placed a statue of limitations on fixing a defective. Good luck!
