Chips Ahoy Chewy Cookies

I rarely buy Chips Ahoy cookies. I like to save them as a treat for the family. So when I recently bought one of your 15 oz chewy packages I was very disappointed. They weren't the little pieces of happiness I expected. Instead, inside the box I found little bits of dough that looked like they had barely been baked. The taste wasn't even the same. They didn't melt in my mouth. They just sat there annoying my taste buds.

I would just like to know why you have lowered the standards for such a wonderful product? When I thought of the Chips Ahoy I thought of wonderful; now I think of a rip off. I would like for you to take the pride in your products you had before.

I RECENTLY BOUGHT A PACKAGE OF THE CHIPS AHOY CHEWY CHOCOLATE CHIP
COOKIES AND I ALMOST TOOK THEM BACK!

WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, I LOVED CHIPS AHOY BUT THEY WERE THE REGULAR
CRUNCHY KIND. NOW, I SOMETIMES LIKE CHEWY SO WHEN I SAW CHIPS AHOY HAD
A CHEWY BRAND, I OF COURSE PICKED UP A PACKAGE.

WHEN I OPENED THE PACKAGE AND DUG INTO THEM, I COULD BARELY EAT IT.
THE COOKIES TASTE LIKE THERE IS SOME UNGODLY CHEMICAL IN THEM. I'M
BETTING IT'S WHATEVER INGREDIENT USED TO KEEP THEM "MOIST" BUT GOSH,
IT WAS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. I WAS A LITTLE OUTRAGED THAT SOMETHING
LIKE THAT COULD EVER BE PASSED AND PACKAGED.

HOW CAN ANYONE EAT THEM? HOW DOES EVERYONE NOT NOTICE? IT IS JUST ME?
IT CAN'T BE. THE TASTE IS UNDENIABLE.

I WOULD GLADLY GIVE UP THE FAKE, "HOMEMADE, JUST RIGHT OUT OF THE OVEN
MOIST" COOKIE LOOK FOR JUST A GOOD TASTING COOKIE. I'M TELLING YOU,
THE INGREDIENT USED TO KEEP THE COOKIES MOIST IS DISGUSTING. I WOULD
NEVER RECOMMEND BUYING THE CHEWY AND WILL ABSOLUTELY NEVER EAT THEM
AGAIN.

I guess it is just me, but I have never enjoyed Chips Ahoy cookies.
They have always tasted like sweet plastic to me. I've always
wondered how they stayed on the market... but I guess people really do
like them.

I would be willing to bet it is the type of shortening blend they are
using. With the change in fats to reduce cholesterol and calories, and
for economic reasons the fat they chose to use may not be what you are
looking for in texture and flavor profile.

And not everybody has the time to make homemade nowadays =( because
nothing beats fresh out of the oven!

I used to love those cookies myself, but maybe they changed, maybe I
did.

Next time, really treat them, with homemade! :) Those are the best.

But I think your request is perfectly resonable, you didn't really
even ask for anything. Nice letter.

one time i cooked a box of the velveeta shells and cheese. i don't
know what on earth was wrong with them, but they came out sooo weird.
it was nothing i did...they just weren't right.

i called the number on the box and told them about it and they sent me
two coupons for free boxes of the macaroni. all i had to do was read
off the code on the box.

i bet if you call the number on the package they will do the same.

Good feedback! Although I personally agree with Rowdy that homemade
is better, obviously that's not always an option for everyone.
Besides, you should get what you pay for and it sounds as if you
didn't.

I'm so tired of companies trying to cut corners to save a buck. I say
they either hike up their price so that they can continue making a
superior product, or change some of the ingredients and keep the
prices the same. So many companies are hiking their prices AND
changing the recipes. No, sorry. I'll pay more for the original, not
for the inferior product that was born out of greed.

...but no one should compare store bought with "real" cookies by The Original Nethead Wed November 11, 2009 @ 11:42 AM

by PepperElf Posted Thu November 12, 2009 @ 1:13 PM

for example, i love white chocolate and i love macadamia nuts

but hell no, not together in a cookie!
mostly cos, it annoys me when I nibble on a bit of cookie thinking
it's going to taste like chocolate...and it's a nut. =p

=D *lol*

My mom buys the regular Chips Ahoy, and they have really gone down in
quality! They are tiny now!

The chewy ones are even smaller, you are correct in that observation.

We can only vote with our pocketbooks I'm afraid. I tend to like the
keebler chunky chocolate chip cookies as a tastier alternative to
Chips Ahoy. Archway is very good too. I do not know if they are a
regional brand however.

My kids like Chewy Chips Ahoy, but I think they are terrible. I
haven't had them in a while so I don't know if they've changed, but as
far as I'm concerned, they have always been lousy.

I buy the other varieties of Chips Ahoy on a regular basis and have
not noticed any decline in quality. I would say the quality is pretty
consistent.

I'm not sure if this was the first time you tried the chewy ones or if
you are comparing them to ones you've had in the past, but my advice
would be to stick to the the non-chewy Chips Ahoy varieties.

They aren't homemade, but they're darned good by The Original Nethead Wed November 11, 2009 @ 11:24 AM

They likely have not lowered the standards - the chewy ones and the
regular ones are two different products. Same brand, but as you state,
different recipe. You didn't like the chewy ones, so don't buy them
again. The regular ones are still the same, as far as I know, they
have not changed.
