I'm Sold (and mildly tipsy) on Black Box Wines

OK Red, I found it and bought it on your recommendation. We'll see
tonight! Most local stores here don't have it but I was at a big wine
mart today and found it. I got the cab as well, it was $19.99.

But I'm failing to see the downside in finishing a bottle in 24 hrs ;)

That brand of box wine sounds like it might be pretty good.

I've been buying Franzia myself for the last few years and, while it's
fairly decent for everyday consumption, I do like to try different
brands on occasion.

I wonder which retailers carry the Black Box brand so I can bring home
a box to try . . .

Jeffrey!). One problem: It's easy to lose track of wine consumption.
With a bottle, you know that you've finished a bottle. I had too much
this weekend! :)

My head this morning was so hoping not to hear the word "wine" at all
today. Of course....first post I see. Ouch, wish the keyboard wasn't
so loud.
Thanks for the tip on the wine....I shall try it myself!

One more plus I should have thought of: The spigot is awesome--not a
single drip after pouring a glass. It shuts off immediately and very
tightly.

Anyway--Until January, we had neighbors who would host "movie nights"
either in their home or on their patio. Everyone chipped in a snack or
drink for the kids. I always brought wine for the grown-ups. I had
found a really terrific wine that they'd like, at about $16 per
bottle. (So shoot me. It's still cheaper than paying per glass for
the swill they sell at our local restaurants.)

I was absolutely crushed when the dad made a disparaging remark about
my "screw top" wine. Deep down, I knew he was knowledgeable and that
he was really kidding.

I've found that most wines from New Zealand and Oregon, in my price
and taste range, have screw tops. I love that I don't have to worry
about breaking the cork or getting "corked" wine. These are also
handy when I travel, although I do now have a simple corkscrew living
in my suitcase.

For those who don't regularly drink wine, take a peek at the wine
section of your grocery store(if you live in a progressive place like
WI) or "package shop" (if you live in some backward place where you
can't get beer AND wine at the same store). You'd be surprised at the
screw tops on the higher-priced wines.

To Harleycat: What would happen if you packed a bottle of tequila or
bourbon? Would the cruise line charge some fee for that, too?

and returned to you on the last day. Since we were in an Owner's
Suite, the cruiseline gave us 3 bottles of liquor and I had bought
mixers with us.

With the wine, it doesn't matter if it's a box, cork or screw cap, you
get charged a corkage fee if you get caught. All the luggage is
x-rayed and if they suspect booze or wine, you get a note to go claim
your luggage in the "naughty room". They didn't catch my box of
wine.

Different lines have different policies. Some will let you bring 1
bottle of wine per adult. NCL just happens to be very strict with
their policy.

The wine I buy, Black Opal from Australia, has a screw cap. I was
uphappy about it at first but there really is no difference.

Thanks for letting us know. I'm trying to be a wine snob on a budget
and have wondered if this was any good. Now, I know it's worth
trying.

Iv'e seen the Black Box wine come through my line quite a bit and
always wondered about the quality too.

May have to give it a shot!...or two...
