I'm Sold (and mildly tipsy) on Black Box Wines

Posted Thu November 26, 2009 12:00 pm, by Angela N. written to Black Box Wines

Boxed wine. Delicious. Worth buying.

Five words I never thought I'd utter in one statement.

I belong to the "ABCs of Drinking Club." Every Thursday night, 20 to 30 friends and acquaintances meet for drinks after work, and we're working our way up the alphabet of bars in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Last week was Joe's Garage. Next week is Kieran's. Next is Legends. You get the idea.

One woman I met through a friend of a friend in the club urged me to try your boxed wine. I knew the economics of it, but was hesitant over quality.

I bought a box of cabernet ($24 for the equivalent of four bottles of wine--bargain!) and am THRILLED (!) that I can have a glass and not worry about finishing a bottle in the next 24 hours.

Your wine is very tasty, plummy, smooth, and high quality. Thank you for producing a delicious product in an affordable, less-impact-on-the-environment-package.

I am singing your praises to anyone who will tolerate my slurred speech (kidding!)

OK Red, I found it and bought it on your recommendation. We'll see
tonight! Most local stores here don't have it but I was at a big wine
mart today and found it. I got the cab as well, it was $19.99.

that you wrote this letter, Red - LOL!

But I'm failing to see the downside in finishing a bottle in 24 hrs ;)

That brand of box wine sounds like it might be pretty good.

I've been buying Franzia myself for the last few years and, while it's
fairly decent for everyday consumption, I do like to try different
brands on occasion.

I wonder which retailers carry the Black Box brand so I can bring home
a box to try . . .

Thanks for all the nice comments people (loved your response,
Jeffrey!). One problem: It's easy to lose track of wine consumption.
With a bottle, you know that you've finished a bottle. I had too much
this weekend! :)

My head this morning was so hoping not to hear the word "wine" at all
today. Of course....first post I see. Ouch, wish the keyboard wasn't
so loud.
Thanks for the tip on the wine....I shall try it myself!

I had heard that the Black Box wines were good, thanks for letting me
know for sure. I was looking for them before my cruise but I didn't
find them by me. I had to settle for a Turning Leaf box of Merlot,
not bad but not the best I've had. The boxed wines are easier to
"smuggle" on the ship. NCL charges a corkage fee if you bring wine
aboard. They didn't find my box.

I saw this letter and I KNEW it had to be Angela.

Thanks for letting us know. I'm trying to be a wine snob on a budget
and have wondered if this was any good. Now, I know it's worth
trying.

THANKS.
