Phony Advertising

Posted Thu December 10, 2009 10:36 am, by Allen S. written to Frys.com

Frys.com seems to have an annoying habit of advertising sale items on their website and then conveniently not having them in stock. This has happened twice in the last few months on products I was looking to purchase which Frys.com was advertising as being on sale. Unless I miss my guess, they're playing the old "bait and switch" game just to get you onto their website or into their stores, in the hope that you'll just give up and purchase a different item at a more profitable price(for them). Bottom line is stay away from Frys.com and Frys Electronics.

Start having advertised sale items in stock.

there is no guessing. Either it is or it isn't.

This isn't bait and switch. There is no switch. If a Fry's rep
contacted you and said "but we have item X for you, at a higher price"
that would be different.

When I am shopping for a particular item, and I can't buy it, I
usually go elsewhere looking for the same item. I don't switch to
some other item of the same kind.

At the bottom of the Fry's website is this disclaimer: "Some online
offers are subject to prior sale and may not be available." This
makes it sound like their web pages are not updated quickly enough to
not advertise items that may have run out of stock - understandable
for an online electronics retailer.

So, how long have you worked for Frys?

Fry's along with many other discount sites has fire sales all the
time. Hot prices for a limited number of items.

If your quick enough you get it, if not then your out of luck.

Alot of websites like Frys operate by liquidating companies then
selling off the product. They never know how much of an item they
will have and therefore cant promise you will get it.

Buy.com and overstock.com are the same way.
