Poor Customer Service
Posted Tue January 12, 2010 10:58 am, by Lorena C. written to ambercrombie & fitch
To Whom this may Concern,
I shop in your store at the Haywood Mall, Greenville South Carolina. I shop there for my 12 year old son. I am appalled at the customer service I continually receive. Last summer, I wanted to purchase slippers for my son and the assistant manager (claiming to be the manager) refused to take the sensor off so that my son could try them on. We had to purchase them first. Unacceptable!
This past weekend, I went to exchange $90 dollar jeans because they didn't fit. The cashier performed the transaction wrong and when I explained what she did wrong (I was still at the register) she snapped at me and slammed the clothing on the desk and told me what I did wrong. She continued to complain about the transaction to the same assistant manager. She argued with me and eyeballed me like she was going to fight me. She snapped at the assistant manager and said, "You deal with her!" I asked to speak to the manager and the assistant manager said she was the manager. After speaking to her about the situation she clearly didn't care about what I had to say. I asked if she was the manager or the assistant manager and she admitted she was the assistant...I asked to speak to the manager, the assistant manager wouldn't tell me when the manager was going to be working or when I could speak to her. First, she said she wasn't working, then she said she was on break, then she said she was on extended break and then she wouldn't tell me her name or when I could speak to her. I received the exchange and left. I wanted to return everything but I didn't want to explain to my son why I returned his Christmas presents.
I really like your store, the music is great, it smells awesome and most of all, my son likes your clothing and is usually seen wearing it. So now I don't even want to shop there. I don't want to step into that store and I don't want to interact with your employees. I also purchased a 200 dollar gift certificate that I gave to my son for Christmas and I would rather throw it away than have to endure another incident. FYI, I am also in retail and I know what good customer service means.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to your reply
Lorena
Buy back their $200 gift certificate and fire those two rude girls.

1. If you aren't allowed to try on slippers or shoes or any footwear--don't buy them.
2. I'd be pretty ticked, too, if a customer "told" me what I did wrong on a transaction.
3. The assistant manager tried to make it clear to you that she was in charge, at the time you were in the store. The "manager" could have been on a lunch "break" or a vacation "break" or on some other kind of "break". The person you spoke to was in charge. If you did not like her service, you could have sucked it up or walked away to come back at another time. It sounds like you're at A and F often buying clothes for your son.
4. Let your son spend his gift card with some other adult present--Dad, grandparent, friend's parent. That way he can get his overpriced clothes, and you won't have to endure the torture of the customer service.
5. Do you know how much clothing $200 would buy at Target, or Kohl's? I have NEVER spent close to $90 on a pair of jeans for myself, and I'm 47. But I prefer Levi's myself, and I like to create my own holes in my jeans.

A lot of company's sell gift certificates. You can not get the money so you are stuck with their products and customer service. They know this and so do the sales people and managers. I hate to say this but the poor treatment reflects the store managers policy on gift certificates. I would have to say you are not the only one receiving the (fantastic service). Best thing to do is put the word out to friends and family not to purchase gift certificates for your family. Better you had gotten a gift with the receipt included in which case you would have just returned the item for cash or exchange. Any company who thinks the sale is done when they get paid is a bad investment. This seems to reflect a lot of companys nowadays as the economy starts to thin out the undesirable retailers and service companys. This has happened before and will continue to happen so best thing for anybody is 2 search the internet for reviews on products or services. Otherwise you risk your hard earned investment. wizard10
