Apple should improve it's insurance - and make a stronger screen

I am a huge fan of Apple products and was more than thrilled to buy my first iPhone a year ago. AT&T encouraged me to pay for insurance on my phone. So I pay $5 a month for lost, stolen, broken insurance. Two months ago I was in a car accident and the screen on my iPhone cracked. When I brought it to the store I was told there was nothing they could do to help me as the insurance I bought doesn't cover my iPhone or at least the damaged that had occurred. So now the crack is spreading and my phone is in worse shape then ever. Apple told me if I'd like to completely void my warranty I can pay $150 for a new screen which is outrageous seeing as I can pay $200 in 6 months for a better faster iPhone to replace this one.

I would like Apple to provide costumers with a better insurance plan for the iPhone and to make a stronger screen. I would also like to see if any other options can be explored for a replacement.

It's a good thing you came out ok from the accident. That's the most
important thing than to worry about some phone.

order up some dragonskin and make an ipod protection case out of
that.

i mean if it can stop bullets, it might protect your ipod too

tho it would be one very expensive case

True story--my sister drove over her iPhone (and I have no idea why or
how it happened) and the touchscreen, though badly cracked, still
operated completely.

I think the screen is very strong.

She eventually replaced the phone for cosmetic reasons.

I went to the att web site found this link:

http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/basics/choosing-features-services/wi
reless-insurance.jsp

when i pulled up the current brochure "View current brochure with
complete Terms & Conditions of your coverage" the I Phone is not a
covered device my question is why are you paying ATT 4.99 per month
for absolutely nothing?

that the contract is up in 6 mos. anyhow. Can you possibly tolerate
it until then?

And have you considered claiming your broken phone as part of your
insurance claim for the accident? After all, it was due to that
incident that the phone was a loss. I'm obviously, not sure of the
specifics of your policy, but it certainly couldn't hurt to try. At
the least, perhaps they would cover the $150 to replace the touch
screen.

"I would like Apple [...] to make a stronger screen." They don't make
phones to withstand car accidents, just as they don't make them to
tolerate falling off buildings.

If they made the screen stronger, the phone would be heavier and
larger and more expensive, and it would never be strong enough to go
through a bad accident.

Phone insurance isn't "bumper to bumper". In fact, the *screen* of a
phone usually is not insured.

We hear story after story from phone owners of all manufacturers who
screens end up cracked and they are surprised that their insurance
doesn't cover the damage. It must be shown somewhere in the
paperwork.

I would buy a new phone at this point. It doesn't sound worthwhile to
fix this one.

I have the same thing with my Palm Pre

Its apparently universal. The insurance covers everything EXCEPT the
screen. The way it was explained to me is the screen is 99% of the
device so replacing that is the equivilant of getting a new phone.
The insurance covers everything else on the phone except the screen.
So battery, in my case keyboard, scratches to the case, broken button
etc. are covered.

It cost me $100.00 to get my palm pre fixed. Looks like its the same
for you.

Either your insurance(or if it was the other cars fault their
insurance) might carry property damage. You might be able to claim
your broken Iphone.

I would check that out if I were you.
