I don't know of a single store ( Besides Wal-mart maybe) that does not
have a similar policy in place.

Most stores have a limit on the amount of time you have to return a
product. If you decided to return the product 10 years from now would
you still expect them to take it?

Honestly 45 days is more than sufficient to make up your mind about a
certain product... Clearly you didn't want it to badly if you had it
for that long and never even opened it...

So, why did you buy it? If you don't have money to throw away? I
really don't get that.

It still amazes me how people threaten to bad mouth a store even when
they - the customer - are totally in the wrong.
Rules and regulations have to be followed even if we do not like them.

Try to sell the game on Ebay or take it to a game store to sell or
trade it.

"I am a writing this letter because I brought a video game from there
store and because it is 45 days pass the purchase date I can't return
it."

Well yeah. Their policy is returns accepted only within 45 days of
purchase. It was more than 45 days after purchase if they refused to
do the return.

Try selling the extra video game on ebay.

Please explain to us why you didn't return the video game the week
after your daughter received it? You said that you are a weekly
shopper at TRU.

Since you shop there weekly, why didn't you return it in the 5 or 6
times you went there since you got the game? You snooze you lose?
Sell it on ebay or craigslist.

45 days is more than generous for an electronic return policy. How
long should it be? Forever?

Since you shop at TRU so often, you should be aware of their return
policy, it's printed on the receipt.

I just noticed that you said you are a "once a week shopper" at TRU.
Why didn't you return the video game the week after your child
recieved it, if she already had it?

Her birthday was pass the date. And when I asked the girl at the desk
if it would be a problem retuning the game I was told no. Because you
can still get a store credit.

I LOVE when letter writers say that they are going to tell EVERYONE
they ever met to never shop at XYZ store evrry again.

Toys R Us has a 90-day return policy. So you tried to return
something 4.5 months after you bought it. You should have looked into
the return policy prior to making your purchase.

Since you shop there weekly I'm surprised that you were not aware of
their return policy. Or did you think it did not apply to you?

In my opinion, this policy is especially important for items such as
video games. In my opinion, if you were talking about an easy bake
oven, you might have a point.

The problem with video games is that when they first come out, they
are high in value due to demand, but once they have been out for
awhile, they lose value. At that point, the store needs to discount
the price or discontinue selling the older game. So if you bought a
game for say $50, return it 2 months later, they may be selling it for
$20 at that point. They lost money!

So it says right in your letter that you are a once a week shopper at
toys r us. why didn't you return it the week after if that's the
case?

They make return policies for a reason. Over a month is more than
fair. Sell it on Craigslist or Ebay

Next time shop a little closer to the time you will need it so you
have a little leeway.

PS Love the "I am telling all my family and co workers never to shop
at TRU" that should make them shake.

Of course not, you are past the return window.

There has to be some time limit on returns - you can't keep something
for two years and then return it. TRU came up with 45 days, which
seems generous. Many stores have a 30 day return policy.

If I were your friend, and you told me this story, I would ask why you
waited so long to return an item you knew you didn't need. ESPECIALLY
since money is tight. I definitely would not stop shopping there
because of this.

Maybe you can sell it on Ebay.
