What a BAD experience at Andy's Cheesesteaks

Posted Mon April 5, 2010 12:00 pm, by sara e. written to ANDY'S CHEESESTEAKS

After 4 years of living in the Morrisville, NC area, my husband and I decided to try the local restaurant after a nearly 2 year absense. The last time we went back in 2007 the service was so slow for both dine in and take out that we opted not to give them any business.

Being too lazy too go any further, we decided to give it a try once again today. I must say the service has further deteriorated. We went in at 6:30 and left at 7:45pm. The restaurant was not even half full. Here are some of the things that happened.

1. Our party consisted of 3 adults abnd 2 child. We ordered the following:

- the combo of a cheeseburger (with everything on it) w fries and a sweet tea. The burger came with nothing on it but cheese and condiments (no slaw, chilli, tomatoes or onions, as requested). The sweet tea was not refilled until we asked the waitress ourself. When we told her about the burger, she took it to the back and told us they were out of chilli and only put slaw on it.

- the combo of a cheeseburger, fries and strawberry shake. The waitress told us they were out of strawberries, and brought a chocolate instead.

- a chicken sandwich.

- after 20 mins of waiting for this order she came back and apologised that the cook had the ticket under another ticket so he didnt make our order, until now! She said she would bring us a custard to make up for it.

As we waited for the food, my husband asked her to bring the cvustard of the day (which was supposed to be cookies and cream , but surprise! They were out of it and only had key lime or vanilla. SO when she came out with the key lime custard, it was in a plastic ketchup take out container. First we thought this was to sample it, but she told us that this was it, and my husband told her she would need to bring more than that for 4 people!

My husband thought, lets give her one more chance to redeem herself and requested another burger. He has worked for Red Lobster and O Charleys and knows it takes maybe 7 mins for a burger. Guess what, 20 mins and no burger! And the store had only 4 tables filled total. He told the waitress, that when an order gets messed up, you really need to step up to the plate and fix things. The staff at the Morrisville NC location ALWAYS lacks urgency. We asked for the bill and left. The waitress apologised and we understand that the cook might have been relaxed, but so is the wait staff, the waitresses dont even seem to want to help each other out of a bind.

Take a deep look at your staff and either rehire or retrain. We even saw a lady come in to pick up take out and she left angry and emptyhanded. Also they should be stocked up on their items.

Kudos for giving them a second chance, but i think its time to write
this location off for good. if they cant get a burger right after
three tries, they have no business serving beef.

You know, there are so many times that I'll say to myself (or
sometimes aloud) that I'll never go to such and such place again for
whatever reason. Then, I'll go back. I start to think maybe I judged
too harshly or just caught them on a bad day. Unfortunately, most of
the time I quickly remember why I originally said I was never going
back. Very rarely is my attitude towards the place improved after a
second visit.

This certainly sounds terrible.

I'll go somewhere, have a terrible experience, and vow never to go to
there again. Then, a few weeks/months later, I'll think maybe I
overreacted, or maybe the service has improved.

I'd say I'm about 50/50 on improvement on the second visit.

Same with me. Now, I listen to the little man more carefully.

I went through several chains in just a few years. Funny thing is, I
have been with my current favorite for 3+ years. Not every visit has
been perfect, but the vast majority have been very good or excellent.
And the service is consistently excellent and people very friendly.

Now, when I pass the other places or think about them, I have
absolutely no desire to find out if they are as bad as I remember.

Thank you all!,
I just wanted to also let you know that after we waited for the second
cheeseburger for 20 mins, the waitress asked is what we were waiting
for!!!! When my husband talked to her about the bad service she said
“the cook is the boss and I don’t know what I am doing”. Then she
said please take the burger, I’m not charging you for it.

Today I opened the cheeseburger, and there was nothing in it except
for the patty, no condiments, veggies, slaw, nothing! The visit
really felt like a bad joke to us.

Wow. Bad service all around. And "free custard" in the amount of a
tablespoon? How cheap!

At least you KNOW for sure now that they suck and you won't waste yoru
time and money in the future.

What made you think it would be any better the second time?

Id rather skip a meal than have an awful one. But then again, all of
my food is prepared in my kitchen, so its not awful!

Good Day

Never heard of this place before, but let me offer one small "excuse"
if you will for the lack of ingrediants.

At 6:30pm which is peak restaurant hours they were out of several
items. I can see a reason, why buy excess items if you are not sure
you will sell them. The custard seems to be homemade, so I can see
only making a few specials so as not to have to throw them away. Same
with strawberries and chili.

As for a 7 minute burger, it may take 7 minutes to cook, but thats if
he has no other orders. So 7 minutes might actually be 15 minutes
easy. Esspecially if everything is fresh.

Again that doesnt excuse 99% of your issues, and personally I would
stay away from this place if it was even half as bad as you mentioned.

It sounds like Andy's has more than one problem. The main issue
currently may be the economy, considering all these items/toppings
were unavailable.

It may be time to give Andy's the old "heave-ho". This sounds like
one really miserable experience.
