HSBC/Orchard Card Issues

I was assessed a late fee on my HSBC/Orchard credit card due to an enormous error on their part. I've already emailed account support for assistance, and they refuse to help. I'm signed up for paperless billing, and my statement cut on March 10.
I got email notification of this a full week later on the evening of March 16. The CARD act says I should get a full 21 days or more between the time I get notification of my statement and the date my payment is due. On the afternoon of April 7, I logged in to make a payment and found I had been charged a late fee of $30 on April 4. If I had just missed the date by 1 or 2 days, I could have possibly accepted the fee, but I was assessed on April 4, which was only 17-18 days from the time I got my email statement from paperless billing.
It's bad enough that I had my card switched (without prior notification or any chance to object) from an HSBC branded MasterCard to an Orchard Card...when dealing with either company, I seem to always receive canned responses to any issue I have, be it online or over the phone. I honestly have to question if the response I got yesterday was written by a human being or a computer, and if anyone actually read my message.
I would like them to reverse the late fee and credit my account. I have since made a payment of more than 20x the amount, so it is more the principle of them billing (read: NOTIFYING ME OF THE BILLING) me in line with the newly established laws.

From what I see, the CARD act stipulates the statement should be mailed 21 days prior to the due date (used to be 14 in the FCBA I believe).
How electronic billing fits into "mailing" I am not sure.
However, I have to point out, you had more than 14 days to schedule your payment. For someone who is such a stickler for details, it is hard to imagine why you didn't pay on time. Maybe the bill was misplaced in your email. This is why I refuse to go paperless.

If your statement cutoff was March 10--21 days later would be March 31. It's not HSBC's or Orchard's fault that you didn't go online.
One of the great things about the new CC regulations is that you must have the same due date each month. So now you can put this bill on your calendar each month for the rest of the year. If they charged you a late fee on April 4, your due date is likely the 3rd of each month. You can mark this on your calendar right now, and you won't be charged a late fee for the rest of the year. You don't even have to check your e-mail(or not check your e-mail).
It's not HSBC's fault that you didn't check your e-mail in over 21 days.
I kind of have to agree with Rowdy here. You seem to be very knowledgable about how the new laws benefit you, but you were bitten by your own knowledge. "Only 17-18 days" after you received your paperless statement. That's still enough time to make your payment.
You knew exactly which snake you were playing with, and it bit you. From now on, respect that snake and make sure you stay away from it.
Personally, I love my credit cards, but I know exactly which ones are snakes and which are cuddly bunnies.

When you play with the snakes, you eventually get bitten.
Good Day
