Please stop with the harassing calls!

My fiance and I were getting sick of paying close to $70 a month just for cable alone, so we decided to call Dish Network and DirecTv for prices and packages. We almost instantly decided no on DirecTV, as they quoted us at $65/a month. Dish Network gave us a quote of $39.99/a month, which we could do, however, they required an "activation fee" of $99 plus the first months bill, which we can't afford. Money is tight and we have a 2 year old, who's needs come first.

We thanked the customer service rep, and told him when we had the extra money that we would call back and sign up. This was this past Thursday, 4 days ago.

In just 4 days, your Customer Service Reps have called us 19 times! Just this morning, you called us at 10:14, and by 10:20, we had recieved 5 calls from you! We have already told the CSR that when we have the extra money, we will sign up with you.

Please stop calling! If the activation fee was waved, we could sign up today, however, that's not going to happen. We understand you would like a sale, but calling and harassing future customers is NOT the way to go!

Are these calls recorded messages or are they from a live person? If
they're from a live person, tell them you want to be taken OFF their
calling list. If you tell them to take you off, by law, they have to.

If they're recorded calls, unfortunately, there may not be much you
can do.

I would join the chorus of people saying you don't need to get
satellite tv.

If the bill is $40 a month, and outlaying an initial $99 is a budget
breaker, that sounds like you are cutting it too close.

If you really want to get them off you back, change "We'll get it when
we can afford the activation fee" to "We have no interest whatsoever
in your product." Just a thought.

You might consider looking in to alternate forms of entertainment.
When we had cable + internet, the bill was around $120! $50 of this
was internet, which we aren't willing to part with. The rest was
cable...it started with a promotional offer, then just a $5 upgrade
here and a $10 upgrade there...

In the end, we purchased an XBox 360. We've hooked it up to play
music from our computer and pay under $10/month for Netflix which we
can access on the XBox. The XBox itself was paid for by three months
worth of money we would have paid to the cable company.

It's been totally worth it in my opinion. We go to the library more,
spend less time in front of the tv, and I still catch many of my
favorite shows online.

Sigh. If money is tight and you have a toddler, you don't need
satellite television in the first place.

At any rate, get a can of canned air like boaters use and blast the
phone. I don't care what it does to their eardrums at the other end,
so the resident whiners can spare me their response to that. I DO NOT
CARE.

Also, I hear you can get sued for damages. by Kalphoenix Tue May 4, 2010 @ 11:59 AM

good point, it can be considered assault and battery. by Chadg Tue May 4, 2010 @ 12:28 PM

I love the 'legal' opinion by RedheadwGlasses Tue May 4, 2010 @ 11:57 PM

how is this different than going up to someone and say stabbing them in the ear? .... intentionally causing harming someone is a criminal offense. saying that you don't care doesn't mean you can't be hit with a lawsuit. by PepperElf Thu May 6, 2010 @ 11:25 AM

"Whiners" - it is NOT WHINING to say that intentionally damaging someone else's hearing is a criminal offense. by PepperElf Tue May 4, 2010 @ 1:13 PM

With this sort of "service" before you even start with them, who needs 'em? by The Original Nethead Mon May 3, 2010 @ 11:50 AM

In our area, we can't sign up with Time Warner Cable, and DirecTV
wanted 60-something a month, so Dish Network is the cheapest in our
area. There are no other competitors. Thanks for the advice about the
Public Utilities Commission, I'll be taking your advice if the calls
don't stop!
