Attitude Adjustment Needed at Dee's JFK Shell in Bloomfield NJ

Posted Fri May 7, 2010 9:12 am, by Maureen B. written to Dee's JFK Shell

Went to Dee's JKF Shell Station on Beach Street in Bloomfield, NJ this morning. Asked for a full tank of regular gas and gave the attendant my credit card. When my tank was full, he asked me for my card. I said I had given it to him already. He check his pockets, his office, etc., and said he did not have it. He asked me for my card again. I told him that I had given it to him.(getting nervous now - I was the only female at the gas station and he apparently lost my credit card!). He insisted that I did not give him my card and I said that I had given him my card. He treated me like an idiot, telling me to look in my purse - I show him my wallet where i keep my card and the slot was empty. I told him that if he did not find my card, I could not pay for my gas. He wanted my home phone number - I said no (after all, he had no name tag or id badge and had just lost my credit card!). The manager came over and was snarky with me right from the start. Gave me a left-handed sarcastic apology - totally made me feel like I was the problem, instead of his careless attendant. Totally chauvinistic and bullying manner from the gas station manager, Frank, who identified himself as a Bloomfield fireman - was that supposed to intimidate me??? So, I called my husband, who called our bank and he also called the Bloomfield Police because if the card was given to someone else, it could lead to credit card fraud, id theft - kind of serious, but Frank the Fireman was annoyed with ME the entire time. My husband came with his card to pay for the gas, the officer showed up, still Frank is sticking his face into my car window, giving me a hard time, bullying me, telling me I had an attitude and then accusing me of trying to leave without paying for the gas. The Bloomfield Police Officer was Right In Front of My Car - I did not try to leave and husband was standing Right Next to the Bloomfield Police Officer with His Credit Card! If Frank the Bloomfield Fireman, had bothered to even try to be a little bit understanding, I wouldn't be writing this, but he continued to bully me, demanding payment for the gas and acting like a total ***. He lost my credit card, I have to wait 10 days for a new one, I missed an important meeting at work and was late for work, and all he cares about is telling me about how is he is a Bloomfield Fireman, still trying to scare Me with that???? He has Zero Customer Service Skills. If all you need is gas, I suppose you could go there, but if you want to be treated like a human being, go somewhere else! Do Not Patronize Frank, the manager of Dee's JKF Shell on Beach Street in Bloomfield. Oh, did I mention that Frank is a Bloomfield Fireman? That should help!!

ID badges or uniforms for all of your attendants.

A refund of my gasoline purchase because of the cost of doing without my debit/bank card for the next 10 days and for lost time at work, missed an important meeting!

Customer service training for Frank, the Manager/Owner

A SINCERE apology!

This reminds me of the parking lot attendant that stole Ferris
Bueller's car... so classic.

It also reminds me that I miss full service stations that went out
when Sinclair finally got rid of the full service lane not long after
I started driving. Not that I'd want this to happen.

I have to say that this was a bad situation and I really hope
something comes of your letter. It goes without saying you shouldn't
visit this filling station again.

This sounds horrid. I hope someone gets back to you.
I don't know why the manager flipped though - anywhere I have ever
gone for gas in NJ if you are asking for a fill, or paying with a CC
you usually hand the attendant your card first.

For those on the site that have never been to NJ - it is illegal to
pump your own gas in NJ. All gas stations are full service.
Typically, you hand either the cash or your CC to the attendant and
tell them what you want. Most places won't let you give them the cash
or the CC after anymore..the attendants rarely go inside though, just
about most places have a small stand outside for them to run the CC
at, they are usually always in your line of site during the
transaction..since the gas prices went up just about everyone wants to
see the money first.

This is poor service indeed. Never go back there. I doubt they will
get back to you...

This is exactly why I am soooo glad we do not have to handle customers
credit cards. They have to slide it in the reader themselves. You
wouldn't beleive the number of times I am accused of not returning a
club card. I can't imagine what it would be like if we had to manually
take a credit card!

Why would I keep your club card????

Ah the joys of credit cards, arent they great?

I have to deal with credit card users at my grocery store, with a gas
station.

It always involves credit card users. Ive been dealing with this for a
while, so I know the drill.

Customers come into my store ranting and raving, throwing a fit about
how my gas pumps are cheating them.

They say they have just filled up their tank, gotten back in their
car, and their gas gauge reads the same!!!!!!

Come to find out, they ran their credit card info, put the pump in
their car, clicked the pump into the lock position, and got back in
their car. NO FUEL ENTERED THEIR VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY NEVER SELECTED
THE OCTANE OF FUEL!!! The pump never started. They read the numbers of
the previous customer on the tank, thinking they were charged that,
then they throw a fit on me.

Or even worse, they realize it wasnt pumping gas, because they never
selected the octane rating, and go to another pump, leaving the other
pump still active for the next customer to come in and use the pump,
fill their car, and the first customer pays.

Using cash is much simpler.

Good Day
