I am a heavy credit card spender. Therefor I earn a lot of reward points. I receive a great deal amount of landsend/sears gift cards from my credit card companies. The problem I have with these gift cards is as follows. ….
I look at gift cards as cash. I should be allowed to spend theses cards as I wish. Why can’t I use my gift cards to purchase other gift card online? Do you realize that I have a choice of gift cards to pick? I can ask my credit card to give me your competitor’s gift cards.
Please fix your system to allow me to use gift cards to purchase other gift cards.

Wow, your store let's you take credit cards to pay for Gift Cards? Many stores are now cash only due to the huge amount of fraud with gift cards.
Fraud happens this way in that instance - someone has stolen CC numbers - puts them on cloned cards. Buys Visa/MC/Amex gift cards with said cloned card and presto! Clean card now!
And I won't even get into the accounting aspects of why you can't buy gift cards with gift cards from another company. Really short version, a gift card stays on the books at the company as a liability until it's redeemed and income from the sale is recorded. So it would have to be at the same company to balance the books.

I am really confused by this letter. Are you saying that you, for instance, would like to use a Sears gift card to purchase a Target gift card on-line? Or do you want to combine your Sears/Lands End gift cards into one card to use at Sears?
You can't spend a Sears gift card anywhere but Sears, Kmart, and Lands End. I wouldn't go into JCP and try to get them to take my Sears gift card.
Gift cards aren't cash! It's like a coupon. Only SHC companies are set up to take them. You can't force another company to take them and you can't force SHC to make their cards readable by other stores.
Next time, why don't you opt for a gift card given by the credit card company with their logo--like a Mastercard/Visa/AMEX gift card. That way, you can spend it wherever you want and however you want.

You better take those rose colored glasses off and take another look. Those gift cards are gift cards, they aren't cash.
I have never heard of a gift card that can be exchanged for cash.
I don't think Sears needs to "fix" its system, because it isn't broken.
I am also a heavy credit card and rewards user - I take ALL my rewards in cash. Then I can go buy gift cards, or anything else I want. I look at cash as cash.

"Gift Cards" given as reward cards are technically the same as a coupon, not cash. Actual paid for gift cards have more benefits and protections, for example (in my state) Gift Cards can not expire - reward cards can, also consumers can get cash back when using a gift card and having a balance less than $10.00 - not so with reward cards.
And finally, and I get that this isn't tied into what you are trying to do, but those gift card racks are a HUGE source of fraud and theft - frequently there are attempts to purchase the gift cards with other cards - usually made with a blank and some poor unsuspecting persons bank card info. I would imagine that the same happens on line.
My company won't let you buy gift cards with anything other than a credit card or cash - I imagine many do the same.
Why don't you just get your reward card for the one you want instead of getting one and trying to convert it?

You're wrong. They aren't the same as cash. If you get a $50 gift card to spent at Sears, you are buying a $50 product that cost Sears $40. They made $10.
If they give you $50 (by allowing you to convert your gift card to a card for another store), they don't get that $10.
And why do you keep picking Sears gift cards if you have your pick of them?
