Drippy Sippy Cups from Gerber

Posted Thu May 20, 2010 12:00 pm, by Kelly V. written to Gerber Products Company

Write a Letter to this Company

My pediatrician recommended my son start using a sippy cup. At almost six months old he will only drink out of Gerber bottles, so I decided to purchase a Gerber sippy cup. I brought it home, hand washed it, filled it half way with water, and where the lid and top plastic meet it drips water.

I have the receipt but not the original packaging. So I'm not sure how to return it to Target. I'd love a sippy cup that didn't leak! I have been very happy with ALL of the Gerber products I have purchased with this one exception. Not the normal high standard that I find with the rest of your company's products.

I think people commenting think that the baby will only drink out of
Gerber sippy cups...the letter doesn't say that - it says he will only
drink out of Gerber bottles. That is the reason she decided to get
Gerber cups, because their bottles have worked well for her and her
son.

That's really irellevant, anyway. Whether or not he will use other
cups (doesn't sound like they've tried yet), this particular cup
leaks, and she should be able to get a replacement, whether from
Target or directly from Gerber. Hopefully it's just a problem with
this cup and not the product as a whole. Frankly, I think you should
just take the cup and receipt to Target and explain the situation.
They will probably let you exchange it. They'll have to damage it out
anyway, with or without the packaging.

Target won't do exchanges or returns anyway.

you may want to consider forgetting target
and just writing to gerber themselves

that way you can also tell them what's wrong with the design etc

I'm in agreement that with receipt, you should attempt to return it.
If the product doesn't work right, Target should know.

For once, I do agree with Rowdy. There was a time when there weren't
1,000 types of bottles/sippy cups out there for purchase. If a baby
is hungry a baby will eat. And my guess is that at 6 months of age
the child is getting nourishment from some other form be it a bottle,
solid foods etc. I'm not saying that I wouldn't try more than one
type of bottle or sippy cup with my child if they didn't seem to take
to the first one I purchased. But, after awhile it may be time to
resign yourself to the fact that it may take the baby a while to
adjust to the foreign object and simply keep trying to introduce it.

If a product is inferior, by all means take it back if you have the
receipt.

So return it to target. They won't require the original packaging.

If we are talking nipples, yes, I dont disagree.

But we are talking about Sippy Cups.

Mrs Rowdy and I have been foster parents for 15 years and had almost
150 children come in and out of our house, many of which babies and
toddlers.

Ive fed many many of them. Many of these are malnourished and hungry,
and they take what you give them. Many foster children are happy just
staying with you. I have many sippy cups and have never had a child
not drink out of it.

RED, just because I never mentioned it, doesnt mean I dont have
experience. I'm all about children. Every holiday I encourage people
to give to toys for tots, to see children in hospitals, to visit
nursing homes, to visit the troops as they come home. Some of which I
knew personally, because they lived with me!

Notice every post about toys, I say to donate to a cause, the same
with clothes.

Good Day

that is still a baby. the poster is quite obviously dealing with a
child that is still picky about the spout/nipple. since it is still
mainly on the bottle or breast. And since this is a 6 month old baby
is it most likely a soft spout cup. yes, an older toddler who has
been off the bottle or used to a cup is more likely to drink out of
any style cup.

It's a difficult and sometimes thankless process, so I think that's
wonderful of you to do so.

But as Fairy said, a six-month-old can be quite picky about sippy
cups, especially if he/she was picky about bottles/nipples. My
friend's child was. It took forever for her to get him on sippys
mostly because he simply refused.

The LW had good luck with Gerber bottles, so she most likely chose the
same brand based on previous experience. The real issue is what she
should do with a defective product, and my vote is to take back to
Target. As long as she is within the 90-day return window, she should
have no difficulties. They may not give her her money back, but I'm
almost positive they'll let her exchange it.

He will only drink out of Gerber Bottles?

Do you think he really knows the difference?

Does he look for the logo? If he doesnt see the logo he lets the
bottle slip out of his hand and pouts?

At 6 months he has just learned to crawl, but he knows the difference
between a gerber bottle and another brand?

Amazing!
