DON'T USE YOUR CC OR THEY WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY

Posted Wed June 2, 2010 6:39 pm, by Bridget S. written to Pizza Hut, Inc.

Write a Letter to this Company  |  Rate this Company

A couple of friends and my husband and I recently rented a condo for vacation in North Myrtle Beach, SC. It was a sunday night and we decided to order a pizza and some breadsticks. We ordered the pizza around 9:45PM and we were told that the pizza would arrive in 40 minutes or less. We were also charged a delivery charge. The pizza did arrive until almost 2 HOURS later at 11:30PM. We did not complain to the gentlemen who delivered it, but since it was so late (and the cheese was then cold) and we had been charged a delivery charge, we decided not to leave a tip. We thought nothing else about it until today, when we checked our charge card (our friends placed it on their charge card, and we gave them cash for 1/2 the order) that the Pizza Hut delivery man WROTE HIMSELF A $7 TIP ON OUR CHARGE CARD. NOT ONLY IS THE FRAUD BUT ITS STEALING AND ILLEGAL TO WRITE IN MORE MONEY ON SOMEONE'S CARD THEN THEY AUTHORIZED. WE ARE ENRAGED. We plan to call the CEO or whomever we need to in order to have something done about this, even the cops if necessary. If this situation is not fixed this will be the LAST time we buy anything from this company (among other appropriate action) if they have employees, who write in a 40% tip for themselves illegally or someone else's money. I worked in the service industry and have had to work for tips and if you don't provide good service you don't get a tip, that doesn't mean you steal from people, we are totally disgusted by it.

I would like this to be brought to the attention of Pizza HUt and have their manager, ceo, whomever handle the situation appropriately. I would like Pizza Hut to reimburse us the full amount that we paid for our pizza and breadsticks as well as the unauthorized tip the delivery man gave himself and other actions to earn back our confidence in them as a company so we don't boycott and encourage others to boycott the company.

i'd suggest, as others have i am sure, reporting the theft to your
credit card company.

i would also suggest that, for future reference, where it says "tip"
write down "no tip" or "cash"

This happened to me once, although it was in the store, left a tip on
the table, went to pay for the pizza with my debit card, when it
posted I noticed someone gave themselves a 10 dollar tip.

I did call that Pizza Hut, of course they said they would check into
it etc etc etc.

About a year later I got the 10 bucks back into my account.

Now its either cash or check.

happened when you called the CEO?

Just to be sure it doesn't happen again, next time when you pay with
your credit card and want to leave either no tip on it or tip in cash,
write the word "CASH" on the tip line. Then there's not a blank space
for anyone to fill in on their own.

Good luck.

Two things:

1. Why didn't you just contact the manager of that location?

2. Contact your credit card company to dispute the charge.

It surprises me that nobody has mentioned this.
Has the charge posted to your account, or it is simply "pending"?

Many times, restaurants will authorize an additional amount to the
card in addition to the purchase price in anticipation of a tip. This
way, when a tip is left, it is not possible for the tip or a portion
of the tip to be declined.

When the charge posts, the correct amount is charged and the remainder
of the authorization is released. Not all places do this, but some
will.

Check your statement or online statement to see whether or not this is
pending. If it is pending, wait until it posts to take further
action.

If it has posted and is indeed too high, further action is most
certainly warranted as it is unacceptable for drivers to add tips to
peoples credit card receipts.

Clearly, you are able to go online from your location.

Find a local pizza place, and actually DRIVE there. You will have a
hot, fresh pizza in shorter time. The local pizza will likely be of
higher quality than anything you'd get from Pizza Hut.

Of course, you will tip at least 10% when you pick up the pizza and
breadsticks. And you'd hope that the previous renters of your unit
tipped as well.

The best solution is to call your credit company, explain the
situation, and dispute the additional amount that you believe that you
should not have been charged.

There should be no problem in being refunded the amount in dispute.

You might also want to call the restaurant, and explain what happened
to the manager, and no one else, so that the restaurant can look into
the problem and provide a solution to protect future customers.

It sounds like you phoned in your order. When the pixxa arrived, you
should have been presented with a credit card slip which needed to be
signed. Said slip would also have had "Tip" and "Total" lines. Did
you fill these out completely? Did you politely ask why the delivery
took so long and give the driver a chance to explain?

The delivery charge does NOT go to the driver. The delivery charge is
merely a "convenience surcharge" that goes into the coffers of the
store. The drivers still have to pay for their own gas, insurance,
and wear and tear on their vehicles.

Please do NOT not tip the driver merely because the store owners are
too cheap to be up front about their charges. The drivers work just
as hard, and under much more dangerous conditions than just about any
wait people out there.

I was making a suggestion to the OP, which is one of the purposes of
replies on PFB. I thought it was helpful. If you want to see the OP
throw away money senselessly, fine. I care about my hard earned money
more than that.

I think it is a tad bit better than suggesting the OP had used cash,
since they used a CC. How is that going to help the OP resolve this
issue?

Ah yes the joys of credit cards.

Had you used cash, this would not be an issue.
