 UNCLEAR automatic subscription renewal practices

I got an email out of the blue that said they had automatically renewed my subscription and taken a significant amount of money out of my account and left me with a negative balance. It was never made clear that I had signed up for automatic renewal, and there was definitely no courtesy email about impending charges. Their were also deceptive elements to eharmony's webpage. There were buttons that said "Extend your Membership" implying that if you didn't click the button, you wouldn't have to extend your membership! I also spent a long time hunting for a customer service number on their website, and only found it after using a search engine!
They only gave me a "one time courtesy" full refund after I threatened (and did) file a complaint with the FTC and asked to speak with a manager. Eharmony needs to make this deceptive practice abundantly clear and give courtesy emails to customers before swiping their money- at least giving them a chance to cancel their subscription as a customer has the right todo. They also need to stop pulling a facebook and put their customer service FRONT AND CENTER.

Over the years, I have come across many companies who do that. It is
hidden in the fine print that if you do not cancel your free trial
account, that it will be automatically renewed, charging you.
Be aware of companies that offer free trials but still require a
debit/credit card number.... Those are the ones who will be likely to
renew your account if you fail to cancel it before the trial runs
out.
AOL used to do this, I have not used AOL in years though so am unaware
as to whether or not they still do.

or goes dormant on it's own in about a year, two years tops for most
healthy adults.

according to his website, the new profile - with all the comments that
he wants someone with "numerous sexually transmitted diseases" ... "oh
yeah, and NAPALM", and that the things he cannot live without are
"Satan, Satan, Satan, Satan, air conditioning".... got MORE HITS than
his previous non-twisted one did.

Wrong. I was on eharmony. Their auto renewal process was made very
clear upfront. In fact, it's quite standard for the online dating
sites.

I would suggest not looking for love on the internet.
It is my opinion most of them are hermits that cant make it in the
scene, or dont have the time, which makes me wonder why they are
looking if they dont have the time.
