exchange for store credit WITH a gift receipt

I am still very angry about this, and it happened a few hours ago. My friend bought my daughter a toy a couple of months before her birthday party, then we ended up getting 2 of the exact same thing. So I asked my friend for the receipt and she couldn't find it right away. She finally gave it to me but it was 90 days past the purchase, and I took a few more weeks getting over to Toys R Us (it's not near my house), and now they won't give me a store credit. The toy is unopened, in the box, brand new WITH a gift receipt????? I mean come on, I get rules but you should still have exceptions. I'm not trying to scam anyone here...........I rarely shop at Toys R Us but now probably won't ever again. Why shop there when other stores and internet has just as good of stuff as them? Planning on calling corporate, but from the looks of the letters on here I've read I probably won't get anywhere with them either.
Give me a flippin' store credit, an online one would be good since it is not near my house. Sincerely,

You were upset that TRU enforced their rules? Personally I'm glad they did, a 90 day return window is pretty generous.

I am really wondering about this. Because whenever my children (now 11 and 7) get two of same gifts, they don't care. They now have two that they can use (together if it's dolls or action figures. If it is video game then it is a spare to play when the game gets worn out.)
Children do NOT care about getting duplicates. It is an extra to them.

By the way, what type of toy is it? If it's the gotta-have-it-NOW gift of the season, returning something a few weeks past 90 days is getting beyond the typical season. Why would a store want to take back dead stock? Certainly not to retain/promote your business, since you yourself pointed out you don't shop there.
Does it suck? You bet. Do I agree with you? Nope.

"I get rules"--No, you don't. Not when you're demanding an exception that other people can't and won't get.
Why not donate the extra toy to charity or Goodwill or something?

I find it exceptionally odd that you "get" the rule but feel it should not apply to you. Why not?
I fully support return policies such as this. 90 days is *more* than adequate. In some stores it is 30 days.
If your attitide is everything should come to you on a silver platter, than sit in the comfort of your home and buy stuff online. It sounds like it better suits you than going out of your way to do anything else.

Please donate it to a childrens hospital, there are many sick children there that would love it. Not only that it would change your mood around.

SO, why do you think you should be an exception? Esp. since, even though you knew it was past the 90 days it took you a few weeks to get in?
The thing is, if everyone can get an exception for any reason they want, why have rules?
