Motherboard replacement after only 2 years???

Initially, I was thrilled with the purchase of my HP Pavilion dv9925 laptop on July 9, 2008. However, within 6 months, I was forced to send it back to HP for warranty-covered repairs to the mouse clicker and power cord connector. Despite it being a laptop, it spent 98% of its life on my desk, and the most movement it saw was opening and closing of the lid (twice a day). Then, 25 months into its life, the screen began to flicker and the entire machine shut down within a few minutes and would not restart. After a diagnosis from Geek Squad, I was informed that the motherboard needed to be replaced at a cost of $393. While I understand that laptops are not built to last a lifetime, I was hoping for a solid 4-5 years of dependable use out of my HP laptop... not two years and 1 month. Despite wanting a new computer, I am not in a position to purchase another $900 laptop so I am forced to make the repairs. I am most disappointed in the quality of this HP laptop.

I am hopeful that HP can acknowledge that this problem is not an ordinary occurrence and can offer me some kind of incentive to remain a customer, and to possible cover the cost of the motherboard's replacement. I simply cannot understand that the company would not stand by its product, even though the warranty period is for 1 year. I would not be making an issue if the machine were 4 years old. However, since it's barely 2 years old, I cannot accept that this is a usual instance.

Mr.olie and I purchased 3-year Best Buy/Geek Squad warranties for our
laptops, in August 2007. Each of us has had a motherboard replaced,
as well as other Geek Squad service.

Sooooo much worth whatever that warranty price was, 3 years ago!!!

When you bought your computer, you took the bet that you would not
have any issues, that might be covered by the extended warranty. You
lost.

If HP did cover you, they would have to cover anyone else who
experienced this failure. Then, by extension, why not cover
everything in the computer during the second (now third) year.

This is the equivalent of HP giving a 2 or 2-1/2 year warranty on the
computer. But the warranty is only 1 year. If you want a 2 or 2-1/2
year warranty included with the computer, you and everyone else will
have to pay more for each computer, because the increased number of
repairs cost the company money.
