Rude Employees made us leave and then they laughed.

We are vacationing in Orlando, Florida and went to the Subway Shop nearest our hotel and close to Disney World. 12390 State Road 535 Orlando, FL
at about 6 pm on Sept. 26th, 2010.
My family of four entered the store and began to order. We eat at Subway often enough that we didn't take long to choose and there were no other customers in the shop.
As soon as we began to order, the sandwich-maker, John, had an awful disposition. I told him that two of us would be sharing a foot long, but with separate toppings. He interrupted to ask what kind of cheese in a voice I can't describe in words. He was clearly annoyed with our presence on this planet. We continued to order, with the same resistance.
I can assure you we're not all that annoying as people go and some would consider us rather nice.
The order continued and when my husband asked that he cut his shared foot-long in half before making it since he was getting jalapenos and my son would not want it touching his side. He first ignored the request demanding to know right then which other toppings would go on the bun and of course, huffing.
That was it for us. We walked out. We will not step foot in a Subway again. I tell you, at home, we're accustomed to zombie-like behavior from our Subway shop sandwich-makers, but we draw the line on being treated like we don't deserve to have a sandwich that we're paying for. We're sorry to have wasted the food, but we felt we couldn't eat a sandwich made with such disrespect. Especially when we're on vacation!!!
I'd like to know what the management thinks about this. Is this kind of behavior ignored? Is training provided?
I'd like this particular employee talked to since when we got in our car and looked back, we could see him laughing!!!
Do you care if I ever eat at Subway again?

September 26, 2010 was a Sunday. Any chance they were closing at 6pm right when you walked in? They may have been upset about that, although they shouldn't be in a restaurant environment like that.
But, if you play the system by ordering two different halves of one sub in order to save money, than give people some slack and just get your toppings, have them cut it in half and whatever "lands" on whoevers half they don't want...pick it out for crying out loud.
Although I expect good service wherever I go, I always weigh the balance of what I'm getting and how much I am paying for it. So, if I have to pick a few toppings that I don't want or like off the "special order" sub I just purchased I'm happy to do just that.
It's a $5.00 sub, not a fifty thousand dollar car.

Some of you are seriously missing the point.
1. The employee could have said, "We don't do that here." re: the splitting a footlong. He didn't.
2. He was rude before I ever said what we'd be ordering.
3. It wasn't about the cost. Sure, I'll save what I can, but it was another Subway employee who told us to order this way. I thought it was easier for them since we tend to order in pairs... my son and I order the veggies and my husband and other son will order a similar meat. Even if I was trying to save money... still not justified.
4. I thought this site was to get feedback from the company, not for everyone to debate whether I was unreasonable in expecting to be treated like a sentient being by someone who's (not very difficult) job it is to serve the public for the sake of that company.
5. Yes, eating something that is made for you in disgust and with ill will IS poison. You can have it, but, not only will I not eat it... I definitely won't pay for it.

No special orders! How hard is to remove a jalapeno pepper from a sandwich? No wonder the rest of the world hates us!!!

I absolutely love the line "we felt we couldn't eat a sandwich made with such disrespect" like it was going to give you food poisoning or something.
I never knew you could split a footlong, but looking at the other comments it seems like it's a pretty common occurrence. I agree this was bad service and good feedback to subway.

Subways are almost always franchise stores and not corporate-owned. As a result, you may find the quality of service varies. Don't ditch the whole chain because of an experience at one store. Just don't patronize that particular location any more. I've been to ones that were spotless and the epitome of awesome service and to others that were roach-infested nightmares with employees who were very poorly trained.
I have a sneaking suspicion that you got caught in the crossfire of something else that going on with the employee, but yes he should be disciplined for talking to you as he did.
Just one piece of advice as a former Subway employee, though: Don't use the phrase "zombie-like behavior" as a blanket statement. Remember that the employee serving you the sandwich is a person just like you.

It was actually a Subway employee who told us we should order the footlong and split it. We've done it that way ever since with no problem. They cut it anyway so what's the big deal? His issue was way beyond what we ordered.

MY husband and I have shared a footlong with slightly different toppings with no problem. He likes jalepenos and lots of vinagar..I like mayo, he doesn't.
