Why Is My Business No Longer Valued?

Dear Sir or Madam,
In regards to your Brewer, ME location.
On Thursday, November 11 I attempted to place a delivery order for one medium pepperoni pizza. I have placed this order many times before and never had a problem. Today, when i called, they asked for my phone number, took my order and then asked how i would be paying. I stated that I would be using my Visa Debit card. She asked for the card number and then told me that the order did not cost enough to qualify for delivery. I told her that I've placed this order several times before without a problem, she simply repeated that the order did not cost enough. I said "ok never mind then" and hung up.
I work in a convenience store by myself, so pickup is not an option. I value delivery service, I tip well and I dont complain about the steep delivery charge. I would just like to know why all of a sudden my order does not qualify for delivery. In my book, if you are going to charge extra for delivery, then order size should not matter. Several local places do not charge for delivery and are significantly cheaper than Pizza Hut, but I prefer your pizza.
I would like an explanation as to why my order no longer qualifies for delivery, and why my business is apparently no longer valued. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter, I hope to hear from you soon
Sincerely
Chad G.
Brewer, Maine

I think its reasonable. I really don't understand why the price of delivery would be free. It's pretty convenient to order pizza and have it show up at your door in 30-40 minutes. They are either going to raise the price of all their food or charge a deliver fee to cover the labor involved.
As a person who delivered pizzas in a rural area, order size is very important. Our delivery radius was about 15 miles. I don't think the pizza places wants a driver gone for 35-40 minutes for someone ordering a $3 20oz coke when there might be a $30 pizza order waiting to be delivered.

It's worth noting that most (if not all) CC's (including debit cards branded with CC logos) have merchant agreements that prevent exactly this sort of thing.
It might be worthwhile to mention this to a manager at that location to see if they'll change their tune on this new policy - if not, contact your card issuer and make a complaint.. losing one's ability to process Credit Cards is a significant blow to business, and will likely spur some reform.

i was going to say that maybe it was the credit card amount but... from how it was worded it sounded more like a minimum delivery amount.
i can only suggest trying to use cash or asking if they will do the delivery for a cash payment instead.
or to try again.
actually try that... try again, see if the answer is the same. it's possible that they just didn't want to do it and pulled an excuse out of their backsides as to why they wouldn't.

Okay. The bottom line is that this Pizza Hut in Brewer, ME, may have changed their policy to include a minimum dollar amount for delivery orders.
This location's minimum dollar amount for a delivery order, based on my telephone conversation with Amanda at this Pizza Hut a few minutes ago, is $10.00 before taxes, etc.
I'm sure that Chad G.'s business is appreciated. But, in the future, if you'd like a delivery order from this Pizza Hut, I recommend ensuring that your order equals or exceeds $10.00.
As they say in that TV commercial, "That was easy!"

I agree -- if there's a delivery charge, what do they care about the order size?

Why not just pack a healthy meal and take it to work with you?

I thought almost every pizza place offered free delivery within a certain radius, Pizza Hut included. I was unaware that they had any type of delivery fee, perhaps this is new? Its not as if you were ordering bread sticks and a 2 liter of soda or something, you did order a pizza. Regardless, hopefully there are plenty of additional pizza places in your community that deliver. I suggest using them and "showing Pizza Hut" by taking away your purchase/dollar. I suggest Dominos or Papa John's.
