Cyber Day Shipping Scam! Includes text from online chat

Posted Mon November 29, 2010 5:57 pm, by Martin D. written to Sears.com

Write a Letter to this Company  |  Rate this Company

Last year I had a very similar experience with shipping games while trying to place and order and obtained a free shipping offer from Sears. The prices changed before my eyes. I had forgotten the incident until something similar happened today. My point of sharing this is to alert people this is happening. Also Sears you know I caught you!

While searching the site today at Sears.com it suggested an item that was at Kmart. While on that site I found something else that I desired instead. This item was on sale and only being offered from Kmart at the time. How I know it was not in the products offered on Sears and it stated kmart on the item.

I went through the process to obtain the free shipping code for Cyber Monday from Kmart. The code for free shipping was less for the items on Kmart than Sears today.

I clicked back to ensure I had the correct code. The item showed free ship. I then went to review the cart and now my item has switched to a sears sold by item. The free shipping is now over 12 dollars.

All this during the same transaction. A Kmart personal shopper pops up asking if I need help:

Text as follows:

Please wait for a Sears Customer Service Representative to respond. This chat may be monitored or recorded for quality assurance purposes. Your average wait is 10 seconds. Thank you for holding.

You are now chatting with Prince. How may I help you?

Prince: Hi, my name is Prince, and it's my pleasure to assist you today as your Personal Shopper. May I have your name please?

You: Hi Prince....your webs site is playing games with a product. I had it in my box...from K mart...blender. It did say it was a kmart item.

You: Now it has switched to a Sears Item and it will not give the free shipping offer?

You: I had a similar experience last year trying to buy something and finally went to Lowes and purchased it.

Prince: I'm sorry for the inconvenience, I will be happy to check that for you.

You: Bella Cucina Artful Food rocket Blender

Prince: Thank you, Please stay online.

You: 35.99 on sale 10% and was using the KMGIFTs for the shipping

Prince: Thank you.

Prince: I'm sorry that this item doesn't have the free shipping option.

You: The first order was fine. Just this one keeps switching up. Then it was changing product form Kmart to Sears.

Prince: I'm sorry the item is out of stock in the Kmart and that's why you are getting it from the Sears.

You: It had it 45 minutes ago because I had it on my screen and it said free. Using the Kmart free shipcode

You: No I think I am getting it from Sears now...because they took back the free ship. This is just a scam!!!!

You: same game the web site played last year. The item was not even offered on Sears a few hours ago.

You: I am going to make a copy of this log and share it with a public blog site

You: and the BBB

Prince: Please stay online while I check what best I can do for you?

Prince: As our valued customer, I request you to go ahead and place the order.

Prince: A shipping adjustment will be made for the order once its placed.

Prince: The adjustment will be refunded back to you in 2-3 business days.

You: If you can do that then we are fine. Thanks

Prince: Please go ahead and place the order.

Prince: I'll stay online!

I am posting this just to make sure people are aware this is going on. I am glad they chatted with me because as I told them I would make a copy and post. I do what I say I am going to do. If stores don't want to give free shipping offers then they need to make sure they don't include the items to begin with in an offer. This changing up shipping offers and in this case this item was clearly switched from one store to the other while I was shopping. Sears did not even have the item in its inventory list earlier today. Beware of what these stores are doing to you while you place your orders!
The positive thing was the personal shopper Prince took care of the issue after I told him my intentions to post the chat. The sign off was from Kmart and I was thanked for being a Kmart customer. Yet you see the text started off from Sears.

Sears.com and Kmart.com both partner with marketplace merchants who
sell items on our website. If your order contains an item that is not
sold by Sears or Kmart, please be advised that this item cannot be
returned or exchanged at your local Sears or Kmart store. Your
merchant's profile, which contains their specific return policy, is
available via the product page. Please see your merchant's profile for
additional details.

On my receipt that was sent weeks after delivery again today! This
section of the return policy is in RED.

This again is proof enough to me that the online stores did not run
out. They simply played games with select itmes to avoid free ship on
them.

I believe you and even had another incident after all my post by Marty5223 Wed December 22, 2010 @ 5:05 PM

by Peg42 Posted Fri December 3, 2010 @ 6:22 PM

As an online chatter for a luxury retailer, who shall remain nameless,
let me "hip" you to something. Customers seem to think when they go
online, they are the only ones shopping. Newsflash, I have seen our
product be depleted only in a matter of 10 minutes, and you mentioned
45 in the chat you posted with Prince. I can't count the number of
times, we have warned our shoppers against adding something to their
basket, thinking it is added for "eternity", (online, we have in bold
print, not fine, that unless an item is actually purchased, during a
sales event or a free shipping event, we can't guarantee that being
so, if not) they will somehow be able to purchase it later, for those
same terms and conditions. Yes, to lessen my synicism, I do feel that
because of the lack of knowlege on shopping dynamics online, people
will assume this. Please stop. Items online go in and out of sale
and in and out of inventory, quite quickly. Just because you saw
something on sale one minute, it may not be available the next,
LITERALLY! Everyone today is shopping for that bargain, not just you.
As a good rule of thumb, get it while you can, otherwise, do without.
Tough, I know.

Sort of interesting. My order (item) is not coming from Sears or
Kmart. My confirmation says it is coming directly from a Kmart store.
It is coming directly from M.Block and Sons located in Beford Park IL.

So this probably explains why it was so easily switched in the system.

According to a personal shopper at Sears regardless of which store I
shopped online the item would of come from this suppliers location!

Of course when I order I don't really care where it comes from as long
as I get it. I just think this explains how this happened in part.

. . . .wouldn't it have been better to wait to find out?

It doesn't seem right that if they actually FIX the problem for you
that you still publicly chastized them for it.

You weren't scammed. I just recreated this EXACT order.

I typed in "Bella Cucina Artful Food rocket Blender" into the
sears.com search box. The ONLY Bella Cucina Artful Food rocket Blender
that is 35.99 before 10% is a Sears On-line only blender #00896904,
model # 101682. It is the first result you get when you search
sears.com.

The second result, with the very same name -- Bella Cucina Artful Food
rocket Blender -- is a Kmart product priced at 29.99, with a model #
of 10129, with NO 10% off.

Further more, if you actually click on the "free shipping" offer on
the main sears.com page, you will learn that the offer only applies to
purchases of $49 or more, so your purchase did not count.

Guess what? If you have the KMART item in your cart ONLY and check out
from sears.com, you can use the KMGifts code and your shipping was
free. But if you have the SEARS item in your cart and try to use the
coupon code, it will NOT work.

So, somewhere along the line, you must have thought you added one
blender to the cart that qualified for free shipping, when you just
added the other. Perhaps you had multiple browser windows open -- I
don't know.

Review: Sears item = no free shipping. Kmart item = free shipping with
coupon code.

So, no scam. Just a series of misunderstandings.
